All About Pocket Knives

Hi, I'm new to this website and would like to ask a question about the OCC redbone medium stockman. I recently purchased one on E-Bay brand new in the occ collectors tin for 38.95 shipping included. All the case sites want around 73.00 for this knife. Does anyone know if this was A good buy? Also does anyone know if the OCC line are good collectors knives as I already have the OCC Russlock that is smooth redbone with yellow flames Etched in the handle. I bought this from a case distributer for 69.00.

That's the great thing about eBay; if you have enough patience you can get knives way below dealer cost. I don't recall, but the dealer pricing on that knife was probably close to $50; so great deal.

I have not seen the stockman, but seems like it was one that just had a special shield and everything else was standard; is that correct? I have several of them, but they were so expensive I didn't dare try to stock up.

I think the Case produced commemoratives / trademarked knives will always have a fairly good collector base compared to all the after-factory etching that goes on. It is a fairly simple way for someone to purchase the full set of a production run of knives that have an interesting topic for them.

The main trick to collecting for value is to collect items that new collectors will be drawn to in the future. Higher demand is directly related to higher value in this business.

Looks like you got a good deal. You asked "is OCC line are good collectors knives", the answer is simple. If you like them they are.

The reason I bought most of the knives in my collection is because I really liked them. Though I've bought a few knives in my time that I didn't personally like because I knew I could turn them around for an immediate profit. I've bought others because they were there (flea markets, yard sales, etc.) and the price was too good to pass up.

Some of the knives In my collection are club knives but the rest are either working knives or not officially marketed as "collector" knives. I tend to avoid knives marketed and packaged as "collector" series. But that's Just me.

Thank's again for the nice replys, I went to that link on your post Mike and was shocked at how low of a price they had on there OCC knives. I even bought the Copperlock for 50.00 bucks. And on e-bay that person at deadwwod knives still had some more stockmans for sale. I sent him an e-mail telling him abouit how I had to send in the stockman I bought to case for rub marks to be removed from the blades. I didn't post this but when I opened the sealed tin the OCC stockman had rub marks on the middle blade and it was delivered sealed in plastic.So I sent it to case for buffing and blade adjustment and when they sent it back I opened the blades by pulling them straight up as to not put pressure against another blade, well when I did this it put another bad rub mark scratches on the blades. So I adjusted the blades myself and called case customer repair center, I spoke to a lady named MaryAnn and she said that it's quite commen for the three and four blade knives to rub against each other when opening them. She told me to write her a note stating that all I wanted done was the blades buffed out and resharpened. I'm still waiting to get the knife back. Anyway like i said ealier I talked to Brian at deadwood knives and asked him if he could check out a knife for me and make sure that there were no problems with the blades. Since you guys said it sounded like a good price I bought another one that he says is fine. I am going to eather sell one or use the first one as a every day carry knife. Not sure yet. Or maybe trade someone on this site for a different knife??
As for as my collecting goes I collect all different kinds of knives. I don't have as many as I did at one time due to some financial problems a while back. I wish I had every knife I ever owned still, it would be a hell of a nice collection! I had knives when I was younger that were worth a whole lot more than I sold them for due to not taking it seriously at that time. Oh well they say hind site is 20 20. Sorry for rambling on, I just never really ever had anyone to share my passion for knives before. I really like this site. Any offers on a trade for a perfct OCC redbone stockman? In trade I mean. If any one is seriuos I can send pictures.
