Does anyone know the last production year for the KaBar Whaler (WLR89) and the Case Whaler (1199SHR) ?

found reference to the case 1199shr through the eighties.

did not find the ka-bar number in referece. i did find two whalers produced for the ka-bar collectors club. that were issued in 1989. that may possibly be the wlr89.

Thanks John
The KaBar special run had scrimshawed ivory handles. I had 2 of them and had them rehandled because the scrim was done by machine and, while no expert on ivory, I don't think they were. They were absolute production line clones of each other.
I know Case had 2 different model numbers for Whalers, 1199 and, I think 11031 or 11039, which may have been called a Rope or Sailor's knife. I'm not sure what the difference was between them. They also had special runs of the 1199 with a horse drawn fire engine and the "General" Civil War locomotive on the blade with 1980 tang marks.

the info on ka-bar shows k.c.c. also had a smooth white bone whaler for 1989 as well as the scrimshawed version. the 4th edition standard knife collector's guide(richie/stewart) identifies wlr-89 as a club knife. 774 produced in natural bone.

John
I'm embarrassed. I have a copy of the Knife Collectors Guide and never thought to look in it. Thanks
I've tried to attach a picture of one of the KaBars that I had rehandled in Mammoth Tooth by Mike Hoover - just because it looks good.
