Hi I have an old Robeson and the large blade does not close all the way due to the tang hitting the back spring. Is there a way to adjust or repair the knife so it closes properly? Here is a pic

Looks like the master blade has been sharpened down, which is why the tip is sticking up out of the frame.

You might be able to file a little off the kick (part of tang that usually protrudes from the tang and meets the backspring). Use a fine file, but be careful to remove only a LITTLE bit of steel at a time.

File a bit, check how the blade closes, file a little more until the tip of the blade closes inside the frame. Be careful you don't let the pull (nail nick) sink past the top of the pen blade (which would make opening the master blade more difficult).

I've done this quite a few times with good results.

Just go slowly. File, check, file, check, etc.

That is the way I fix that problem.
It is a pretty simple fix, just don't take off too much.
Like Karl said, "File, check, file, check."
