Does anyone think this etch is wierd? Or just me

The etch looks good to me , maybe a little too good. What bothers me is the pattern number. I'm thinking it should be RS3333 being an official scout knife. The R3333 was not an official scout knife.

the etch is different than what ref. books show, the bail is grooved corectly, the bolsters are not grooved, the shield is round but the pics of the r3333 scout knife has a scout symbol shield. could be a real rem. i bet all examples are not documented.

I'm not quailified to make a call, but I will say if it's a fake it's a darned fine looking fake!

I think Remington used up old blades with the R3333 pattern number, when they started producing official scouts in 1923. I have seen a few official scouts with the R3333 stamp instead of the RS3333. Stockman has one, that I've looked at and it is correct. I've got another one in poor condition I bought on ebay just to study it. It has a long pull with the R3333 stamp. Its the original blade in an official scout. There are exceptions to almost every rule in knife collecting.

If anyone wants to see the knife, knife-nut is talking about I could try to get pics. It has a clear but worm etch seems to have never been apart. I noticed the pattern no. not having the "S" when I bought the knife. I have also seen his before. The official etch made me think the knife was OK.
