All About Pocket Knives

I recently picked up a 1992 Canoe(DR62131). Can you tell me what the model stamp prefix "DR" is for?. I looked it up on your blade # page & it says it's for knives w/ a drilled rear bolster. This knife is not drilled, I didn't know canoes came drilled at all.

I'm not Bryan, but here's what I found.....

Parker's Guide mentions a 1991 DR62131 "DARK RED" bone canoe. So I'm guessing that's what the DR stands for in this CASE (pun intended).
Is it possible there is an extra dot, (9 dots) and yours is a 1991? Or maybe some were made at the end of the run and were 1992, as you've said. It mentions 500 SERIALIZED pieces....does yours have a serial# ?
One reason this makes some sense, is that in the 1993 7 dot run there was a DR 6220 SS peanut, with dark red bone scales.....can't see them drilling a lanyard hole in a peanut JMO.
These were done when Zippo bought Case. All four special runs "90-93" of several patterns....500 of each...were actually shipped in 1994.

Thanks for chiming in. Mine does have the dark red handles, but no dots. The tang stamp has "CASE XX", below that "Bradford, PA", & below that " 19 USA 92". No serial nos. that I can find.

I'm no expert on Case knives, but here's what I found....
That dating style means it was made during the commotion after Jim Parker and W. R. Case went into bankruptcy. So, after a little digging, I found that knife listed in the Volume 6 Price Guide on page 253. It is listed only as DR62131 "Deep Red".....not even by pattern name....just as 3 5/8" in length. Parker put a value of $75 on the knife. His values are
USUALLY overstated somewhat, in my experience. But still, you have a nice knife, and a bit of a story now.....

No, I'm no expert on ANYTHING......Just someone who has enjoyed using/collecting/selling/researching knives for the last 40 years or so.
