All About Pocket Knives

This knife was made in either 1898 or 1899 and was on display along with some other Cattaraugus MOP knives at the 1900 Panama Exhibition. It has been cleaned, but is still a stunning looking knife for it's age.

Fran, at this point I don't know where I'm at. I buy everything and anything, vintage, new, what ever. My therapist says I have a serious case of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), knife disorder. He's going to try some new form of aversion therapy with me and see if that will curb some of my obsessive buying. He did tell me he carries a Rough Rider and when I asked to see it, I asked him how much he wanted for it.

the heartache of "OKD" (obsessive knife disorder)! we're pullin for ya, jim. btw, buying chinese knives won't do much good....you feel hungry after about an hour!

I think the Rough Rider was the aversion therapy, and you're obviously a hopeless case.

My tale is much like yours.
I progressed rather rapidly.
I too was buying everything that "goes cut," (to borrow a phrase from OKCA).

However, I found a cure, perhaps the only cure possible for OCD Knife Disorder.

I started repairing & customizing knives.
There are several advantages:
1- Used knives needing repairs are cheaper than new knives or mint knives.
2- Unfinished blanks are cheaper than a fixed blade knife of the same quality.
3- You still get to play with sharp things.
4- Sometimes you make enough money to break even.
5- You can use the knives you fix.
6- You still get to play with sharp things.
7- It is cheaper than collecting vintage knives or new knives.
8- You still get to play with sharp things.
9- It is fun.
10- Did I mention that you still get to play with sharp things?

Of course there are two other options:
Option#1:
Box up all your knives
Wrap them carefully so they are not damaged

Dale I appreciate that you can relate to my disability. I, however could never make a decent looking knife like some of the knifers here. The sad part about this illness is that it only seems to get worse. I've always said I never saw a knife I didn't like which means I've got it bad.

Just curious; with those arched tang stamps, does it have a pattern number stamped on the other side of either blade?

9ball, There aren't any pattern numbers on the pile side of the blades. I'm also glad that the COA doesn't bear Parkers autograph as well.
