Stainless Steel wearing Moose Antlers. Solid as a rock...heavy-duty workhorse...built like a Mack truck (or a moose!). As you can tell, it's already seen some service. Well, I didn't expect it was gonna keep that mirror finish forever!

Nice! Is moose antler much like elk antler in its characteristics? The Ruana shop has always used elk... for decades. Here is a more recent one by Rudy's son-in-law Vic Hangas.

Cal I really like the looks of that Hangas knife. All three are excellent but the styling on the Hangas really appeals to me.

Thank you for the kind words. Vic Hangas is a man of talents, including painted art, and a consummate fly fisherman. I don't think he makes any knives anymore; he is now an aged man and has passed the torch to his sons Mark and Mike, who are artists in their own right.

Any Schrade knife is a pleasure to own. There are many by Cold Steel too.

Interesting scales Q. I have to say it's the first time I have seen Moose antler scales, they look good!

Not sure if I've posted this before but thought I'd throw it in for your viewing pleasure. I bet this one could tell some stories. Phia-Kaetta circa 17th century. The carving work is amazing.

The steel blade was provided by Gerome Weinand, a highly respected Montana bladesmith from Missoula, Montana in a not completely finished form. He is known to have used 1084/L6 in steel he furnished to Ruana previously for another similar knife.

I gave one to my brother in the 1970s and he swears by it. I like 'em too (one of the 1742 types of knives that I like).

Must be our "era" gents - we've got a drawer full of Old Hickory knives. My Uncle Fred, my first main instructor (other than my Dad) in things concerning the outdoors, hunting, bayonets, knives, guns, women, etc., gave us our first Old Hickories when we got married over 38 years ago - been using them in the kitchen ever since - lots of bluish patina on those knives now. OH
