All About Pocket Knives

A local Gun & Pawn also repairs MinnKota products; dropped my trolling motor off for repairs last week and noticed a few old USA made knives. I bought this Schrade bird dog knife and a Remington Bullet. OH

Fine looking Schrade, OH. That's one I would have picked up too, had I seen it in a store.

Autopoint/Chicago/USA is a new one on me.Found a letter opener in a antique shop today that I had to buy.Anyone heard of them?

The SEARCH function turns up quite a few Autopoint-related posts. They are also listed in Goins’ as having been founded in 1911 and were still in business when his guide was published (1998). Known for advertising knives.

Thanx Denis very usefull.I can't made out the advertisement on the cracked ice scale.I'd say the knife is from the 50's or 60's.

Dogg, I’ve got an IKCO letter opener knife, looks very much like yours, it was gifted to me by a fellow AAPK member years ago. Lays on my desk, I use it nearly everyday, very handy knife.

The LB7 "Sporting Dogs" have the best scrimshaw that Schrade ever made. Beautiful knife !

Bruce, This is a mighty fine lookin' knife! I do have a question, is there a different name/term for the scrimshaw that has colored work? Most of what I have seen is the carved or etched design highlighted in black.

Thanks Phil, but this is the first one I ever saw. I'm hoping Kootney Joe or Dale - Orvet will happen by - those guys know a hundred times more than I'll ever know about Schrade Knives. OH

It appears to be. The clear plastic insert fitted in the display box has the Schrade name and logo on it. That's really all I know. OH

They're factory, I have the Cowboy edition version, no sheath. They should also be a serial number on the bolster.... depending on the model they were numbered in the thousands.

I just did an AAPK search in the Schrade sub-forum and got a hit - see this four year old thread. Three knives in the series, factory issue by Schrade, mine is the second of the three (mine also seems to have lost some color over the last 25 years). OH

Gone2Three, I see you posted while I was writing. I don't think that is from the same series, but another series - but the Cowboy is very nicely done. Now I wonder just how many different series of these did Schrade release? I've seen several in the past with American Indian themes and beaded sheaths. OH

And yes, those Indian themed pieces are very nice as well. Really nice bead work on the sheaths.
If I remember correctly my cowboy sheath had a horse head?? Stamped on the flap, its been too long ago

Edit: nope, I was incorrect on that...it was a spur on the sheath and my knife # 2350 out of ?

This is the best I could PRY outta the hands of very few people selling. Others, even though there was little traffic wouldn't
meet my offers. So they keep and repack.

That "Heavy Duty Boat Knife" looks like a German twin brother of the Kabar FB/spike sets.

That Boat Knife looks nice! I've never seen one like that. If only I had a boat.

Pawn shop knife procurement!!

Those two Buck Lite 110's are nice looking. Doesn't look as though they've had much use, if any at all. Are those earlier models or recent?
