This is a pic of my Imperial-Schrade roll from a few weeks back. A handful have been added since this was taken.

Thank you. At the moment I believe I'm at 8 Imperials, 10 Schrade open stock models, 12 Uncle Henry's and 19 Old Timers. I've got other brands, but they don't give me a thrill like a Schrade.

Richard Lanigan at his store, Red Trout knives, has something for your viewing pleasure. It may just be the finest old Schrade you will ever see, and I am not kidding. And it comes with a supper mint.

Cal, Mr Trout has sold me some of my prized knives, over the years.
He sold me a Buck made in the mid 1960's by Schrade, then another, and another, and another.
::shrug:: I hoped he would run out of mint knives, before I run out of money.
I have always called Richard, Mr Trout. He always has the best knives. ::ds:: ::ds:: ::ds::

I will tell you that I too have purchased some High quality pieces from Richard. I get to talk with him on occasion and always enjoy our phone conversations.

He has way more Quality pieces than I do money, however, I sure would love to take a run at everything he has...lol

The knives he just posted in his store are absolutely GORGEOUS.....Truly Mint examples

Found a new pawn shop today, and they had this 8OT. Here it is after a basic cleaning.

Ken, I paid $18 (including tax) for this one. I located a stash of Old Timers for $10-12 each back in December but I bought them all. ::groove::

There are still quite a few minty S-W or early Schrade USA 8OT's out there. Every now and then one flies under the radar and sells low (under $30). I think it is better to wait for one of these unused ones than to buy ones with blade loss. That said, if you like to clean & sharpen older knives, then well used 8OT's could be made into a good gift for friends.

That seems like sound advice, especially for shopping on eBay or other web vendors. In my case I find knives at pawn shops, inspect them personally, then haggle with the shop until we agree on a price. The most I've paid for an old Schrade is $27. As I said, I've gotten them as low as $10. Also, I'm collecting these purely for my own enjoyment. Turning a profit is not on my radar. I do enjoy cleaning and sharpening knives. My dad was a barber, so I can't remember a time when I wasn't fooling with something sharp.

That is certainly a very valid collecting philosophy. Many very interesting older knives may never be found or affordable within a person's lifetime in pristine condition, but as a slightly more tired specimen, can give great pleasure and value to a person's life. ::tu::

Thanks. Plus I love trying to envision the lives these knives have led. Character is important to me.

Beautiful Trappers! Everytime I see nice ones like yours....makes me want to get a couple. Seems when I do look for a trapper, a stockman always says "buy me" and I lose on a quality trapper. Hope to have a nice trapper soon.

Some fine trappers koldgold, despite liking them I don't actually have many. The two peachseed waldens, an EDC grade 285uh and I won this 1983 heritage green bone last night. My main focus is on the 4" stocks, I have more that four of those :D
