Charlie, like Phil, I'm real interested in how your knife performs on big game (if you plan to use it). It appears to bridge the size difference between the Schrade 15OT and 152OT (the 15OT is too big for my tastes as a deer knife, while the 152 is a tad small) - your boys may have found you the perfect size sharpfinger design. OH

I haven't decided yet whether I'll be using the H & R or keeping it mint. I have a couple of Schrade sharpfingers that I've used over the years and most recently I've been carrying a Silver Stag up-swept skinner ( pic below) in the field. With only a few bow hunting week ends left this season I'll probably make that call next season. The temptation to take the H & R afield will probably win........I have a hard time keeping mint skinners! I'll be sure to let you guys know how it performs if and when it goes into the bush with me. The Silver Stag, which is slightly larger than the H & R, has performed quite well and takes a wicked edge. However the natural curve of the stag on this particular knife is a bit uncomfortable in the hand at times.

Cool Sharpfinger there Charlie..........that hollow grind must have been done on a 4" wheel!

I finally got in some good Sambar stag, I'm working on a skinner to mount it to. Should be pretty cool.

Newest blade the mail man dropped on me, BK9. Wow what a great balanced knife for the size, it feels much smaller and more agile. Documenting it before the mods kick in. Great blade for the money. Came sharper than any knife I've ever seen, hair vaults off your arm when it sees the blade coming, shaves effortlessly. .

Ivoryman, the BK9 is a nice looking, military style knife that you've bought - what kind of scabbard came with it? What is the intended purpose of the design? I've posted this Buck in another thread, but my first fixed blade of the year is another good condition, used Buck 118 (back up for my primary hunting knife - just in case!) OH

It's hard to beat a Buck, OH. And that is a fine lookin' specimen!

Ivoryman, the Ka-Bar BK series are some fine tactical knives, ya picked a good one. Why would the mods have anything to say?

After my most recent post I realized that I have more sharp fingers than Freddy Krueger!

Good looking bunch of Sharpfinger's Charlie - I see you have a Bear & Son in the group - is it a worthy successor to the Schrade? I see them in the display cases at the Ace Hardware Store's around here, about $25.95 IIRC, the Schrade USA are going for about $50.00 in mint shape now. I have thought about trying a Bear & Son - good price point for a gift knife to a young hunter and still USA made. OH

OH, the Bear & Son is a no frills knife with delrin (staglon type) handles, full tang, and a stainless blade. The thickness of the blade spine and tang are slightly thinner than the old Schrades and the finish on the blade isn't as polished. All in all, it's a very serviceable knife and an acceptable USA made replacement for the Schrade. Bang for the buck......it is well worth the price. Tough and durable, short of using it for a crowbar and breaking the tip or pounding the handle with a hammer it seems pretty hard to hurt. The one I have came with a leather sheath that is very comparable to the Schrade but I've also seen them with black nylon sheaths. It would make a good gift for a young hunter at a price that won't break the bank. IMHO.

Now we're talkin.' Four or five sizes of those Bucks with black phenolic handles are some of the most useful and economical knives ever made. They are tough, simple, with the right shape for the job. They are not too slippery and they are not too cold in the winter. The old-style flap-over sheath is a great design, as well. Bully!

Old Hunter and Sasquach: Philco nailed it, the mods are what I am doing to strip the black factory coat off, cold blue the blade, and make new scales out of some Teak wood, I don't care for slick black plastic. It's sold as a combat Bowie knife I believe, but it won't see much combat. I wanted a knife that was big and bad enough to replace a hatchet and axe camping, but still be able to chop, split, baton, beat on if I need it, or to carry in the bug out bag. The sheath is nylon and not great, but will keep the blade covered in a pack or duffel bag. This exceeded expectations, it doesn't feel 14 inches long, doesn't feel over a pound of weight, the handle fits my hand like a glove, and it's so balanced it feels like half the length. Chops like a machete, better than a hatchet, and way less weight to carry. Plus does all the camp knife stuff I could need.

Ivoryman, you'll need to post some pics after the modifications. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. What kind of bluing solution are you going to use?

I've posted this one here before. It's my favorite large camp bowie and it's been tested by 25 years of hunting and camping trips. It has taken a lickin' and kept on tickin'. The leather sheath is looking much more worn than the knife and the brass guard is showing some nicks and dings. It's Achilles heel in comparison to your BK is that beautiful crown stag handle. You can't hammer on the handle. It has served well in machete - hatchet modes, works well as a skinner if you choke up on it, and the crown stag handle is comfortable and fits my hand very well. At 15 1/2" OAL it balances perfectly at the choil and it takes a wicked edge. After all I've put it through the weakness it has shown is, as I said, the stag handle which developed a crack starting at the guard and running back about an inch and a half. I filled the crack with epoxy 5 or 6 years ago and it hasn't gotten any longer or wider since. The crack is virtually invisible.

Charlie, thanks for the feedback on the Bear & Son Sharpfinger - going to move that one up on my "first deer - first knife" giveaway list for young hunters - the fact that all the Ace Hardware stores around carry them will also make it easy to pick one up before a hunt.

Ivory, good feedback on your BK9 - I'm wanting to add a short machete type tool to my hunt truck toolbox, something like this or the new Buck Compadre are what I've been thinking about. Even a flat hatchet like the new Buck might be good. I have taken down trees up to about 5" diameter with my Cold Steel machete, but it is a bit long.

Don't know if I posted this before but just stumbled across it while re-shooting some knives. Ontario SP-10.1/4 inch thick blade;great sheath;tie-downs everywhere(couldn't lose this knife if you wanted to) and USA made. Don't know how it would carry on long treks;hip carry for me is dicey. I had a custom Phelps single action revolver chamber for .45-70 that weighed about 6 1/2 lbs and that was agonizing to carry.

Nothing like a good stripper to get me excited. Took off the covers, stripped down bare, lost the rough black coat, and now getting out the wood to do it right. It's on the wood. Finished scales coming soon.

Hi from Australia, I like your Buck knives.
As I do not understand the meaning of "ball park" I can only think you mean money.
We do not talk about money on these forums, we only talk about collecting knives.

Got a minute working on the Teak wood for the BK9 scales today and have them roughed out.

Anxious to see how that turns out Ivoryman.

Colt_Diamondback81 you have a nice group of Bucks there and they all look to be in fine condition. Looks like you have a 103, 105, 118, 119 and a 121 model. A good way to get a ball park value would be to search completed SOLD auctions on eBay. The way each knife is marked, in 1, 2, or 3 lines is important as well as the type of sheath and how it is marked. The fewer lines of print on the blade stamp the older and in general more valuable the knife. Buck beats Buck USA beats Buck 103 USA and so on.
