Just got this Craftsman/Western with original sheath.
Not pretty but solid and besides, his cousin needed company.

Been a while since I've found anything due to being house-bound with some kind of respiratory ailment.Still there but getting better. Anyway I stopped in to see a friend of mine at one of my favorite antique shops and found this little gem in one of the vendor's booths. Far from being mint but one I didn't have:A knife-ax combination by Keenwell Mfg. Co. of Olean NY. Goins lists them as being a mark of the Union Cutlery Co circa 1911.
Sheath is in rough shape but is being put back together again(pic shows clamp on glued edge).FWIW I use a product called,"Shoe Goo" to repair leather goods. Works great. Blade had a rounded tip which I lightly re-profiled and re-sharpened. A lot of pitting on both blades.Celluloid scales are in extremely good shape(no curling and very little shrinkage).I thought $40.50 was a good price.

Sure couldn't go wrong at that price. You've probably had your moneys worth for the fun of fixing it up. ___Dave

Thank yo;and now it will be even better. I just won a sheath and extra hatchet blade on e-Bay which will replace the sheath I got with the knife. It is beyond repair unfortunately.

Here is a trio of Western products;two knives and an ax. The knives I bought did not come with a sheath so I have been thinking of crafting a sheath that holds both knives and the ax. Never made a sheath before but they can't be that hard to do. I have some leather working tools and a tool for stitching leather.

Nice Black Beauties knife7knut.
The hatchet sheath looks like an original with the Oak Leaf and acorn pattern.
Good luck making the knife sheaths.

Cal, that's a real beauty. Is there a little green starting to appear around my ears? Congrats.

Gary, for me, you hit one over the fence with that one. I love that blade profile and that knife is just spectacular. ::tu::

Thanks Jerry!!
I'm kinda diggin it to! The convex grind turned out much better than most I have done, the buyer wanted it that way so I had to give it a go. I struggled at first with the new attachment I made for my grinder, but soon settled right in.

Thanks tongueriver!!
I did make it yes. Patterned after the Wolf River of Bark Tool I sat down and drew this one up and went at it. I don't literally copy anything but I will draw something up close putting my spin on it.

Thanks redrider!!
That's my new makers mark changed up from Gary Music Handmade. The hair leaps from your arm from freight before the knife gets close!
