Beautiful Grant! Here's my latest ones. First is Ambush Tundra, the second is American Knife Company. Both brands are made by Bark River. The details are in file name. I'll post more soon.

Tank that Tundra has a heavy liner much like the Fiddleback knives. I like the look and may try making a couple of them myself. Very nice.

Yes they are inspired by Andy. He recently visited BR. The Micarta is made by ShadeTree. I would love to see one of your knives in this style.

What I don't know is who made it. I've seen that knife online, described as a letter opener, also as a "short Ka-bar". I don't think it's a letter opener (although you could certainly use it for that), the letter openers are usually made of some synthetic material and these are like any other knife, made of metal and leather.

This has 3572 deep stamped on the front side and USMC stamped on the back side. No maker's stamp that I can see. Going for Chinese type prices, this knife is a mystery to me.

I picked myself up an early Christmas present, well 2 actually. http://www.dvor.com/ had the Case V-42 going for $325 which is about $100 off of every other price I have seen, so I pulled the trigger. Then I found a very nice presentation case that Shepherd Hills is offering http://www.casexx.com/Details/?ProductCode=21943&Patid= so I picked it up along with a Zippo lighter. I don't smoke but a lighter comes in handy for many other things, it will probably end up in the display as well. I really like how the knife displays in the case with the etch on the glass. Already have the knife and I think the case & lighter are showing up today. Will post some pictures when I get it hung up.

Made in China, supposed to be authentic looking USMC design. Can't imagine a real Marine using an issued knife made in China though. Another cheap copy of the real thing.

Nothing gets past ya Jerry, nailed it like a true knife knowing pro. A gift from eons ago, never use it, thought I'd document it before I get rid of it.

A couple pictures of the V-42 display. BTW- this knife is super sharp with a tip like a needle. "Stick 'em with the pointy end" was it's purpose I guess. Really impressed with the display case, about 22" long and pretty heavy. Comes with mounting hardware and instructions, now I just need to figure out where to mount it.

Maybe over my bed?

A nice looking V-42 to be sure but I thought they were going to make the grind the same as the original. The grind on the pictured knife looks the same as the 1992 reproduction that Case issued.Here is a pic of an original and a 1992 repro together. Note the grind near the tang is almost at 90 degrees to the blade while the repro is ground at at about 1 45 degree angle.

I'll have to look mine over a little more carefully when I get home but it does appear to resemble the 1992. I like that a handle, do you think it is from a big piece of Plexiglass?

It is actually made from 2 pieces of optical grad Lexan.The piece behind the metal guard is separate from the two handle pieces.What I did was cut a piece of 1" diameter Lexan in two pieces lengthwise.One half is thicker than the other by about 50%. I then took the thicker side and hand filed a groove the length of the piece to just fit over the tang of the knife.I then drilled holes in them and fitted them together with some 2-56 threaded rod and nuts.I had to counterbore the holes slightly to let the nuts sit low. I then ground the handle to shape;the heat actually setting the nuts into the handle and polished everything starting with 220 grit wet-or-dry paper(dry so it didn't wick under the handle and start to rust)and finishing up with 600 grit and then polishing with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish.Fitting the pommel nut on a bit too tightly caused the handles to crack slightly but I think it only adds to the theatre look. It is only a temporary handle until I can convince Case to sell me some of the leather washers they use on their new reproduction.
