Oh my goodness! I’m more of a Classic Rock fan, but I’ve listened to and performed, a fair bit of Country. Written some too, accidentally.
That was just amazing! So many faces I recognized and respect. Reba and Dolly have especially been women to admire.
I wonder how many people watching this wondered why they included a “Whitney Houston song”.
I actually have very fond memories of sitting at the kitchen table with my sister in law, circa 1981, playing Dolly’s record and singing ‘I Will Always Love You’ at the top of our lungs. I still prefer it.

The individuals who wove those songs and all those artists together producing that beautiful work of art were a bunch of geniuses.

Here’s one I like from a local guy, in the Texas singer/songwriter tradition. When my wife was teaching first grade several years ago Max’s nephew was one of her students. He brought his Uncle Max to school for show and tell one day.

Country's been quiet for a while.
Wake up with:
Oak Ridge Boys "Fancy Free" 1981

And Waylon Jennings "Waltz Me To Heaven" 1984

Max says the saying originated in early Texas, when a “circuit-riding” court judge would come to the county seat once every few months to preside over trials and hangings. The criminals to be hanged were referred to by the public as “dogs” and in those days sometimes there were sometimes several dogs to be hung.
BTW the fiddle player in his band is his wife, Heather. She is amazing, also plays guitar and sings and sometimes steals the show, much to Max’s delight. If you’re interested his (Max Stalling) music can be found on iTunes and YouTube.

I couldn't tell you where our version of it came from. There were so many "sayings" in Southern Illinois and they were just part of the everyday language, passed down through the generations so no one questioned their source. Quite possibly many of them traveled with the folks that migrated there from North & South Carolina/Eastern Kentucky/Eastern Tennessee. Hard to say.
Anything by the late great Guy Clark is outstanding! He wrote that song after he was fed up with trying to make it in the LA rat race music industry. Packed up and moved back to Texas. BTW that video is just part of the complete song.
Ryan, go to AAPK Tips and Tricks, and see jerryd’s school of YouTube posting!

Thanks Ken! I’ll check that out So I can post videos better… Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt are two of my favorite old-school singer songwriters, so is Billy Joe Shaver....Did you ever see the full movie “Heart Worn Highways” with all those guys? It’s pretty awesome if you can come across it… Most of it is on YouTube pieces at a time but I actually bought the DVD for a friend a few years back for Christmas and we like watching it from time to time and having a few beers…OC—Check out more of his old videos and Townes Van Zandt… Both were true songwriting geniuses…
