All About Pocket Knives

One aspect of knife collecting that i admire is the willingness of collectors to share information with others rather than being competitive with each other.
The downside is as mentioned: higher prices for all including those who share generously. Despite this i much prefer our ethos of helping each other even though it means i cannot own every knife i want. The upside is that the 'good' knives get spread out among more collectors and this then makes forum participation more interesting. If only a few collectors had all the 'good' knives then discussion here would soon get boring.

Schrade/ Cut. Co/Walden N.Y. 4" Nice older knife. No shield. I don't know the pattern number.

Great knife there Harold. The round end Premium Stock Knife is less often seen than the square end bolster version which Schrade called the "Texas" pattern.
If you have "Schrade Pocket Knives" "Catalog E and Supplements" it is shown on page 46 as number 8803.

You couldn't have said it any better. When I miss out on a nice knife it's refreshing to see it in the hands of another collector on aapk for everyone to see and discuss. Harold, that stock is a fantastic piece!

Hi all from Australia,
It looks like this discussion on the Schrade 880s, has hit on my passion of collecting Schrade knives.
Back in 1973, I walked into a gun shop in down town Sydney Australia, and found my first pocket knife.
Today that old Schrade 881 was used to open my Christmas presents, and so started a passion for Schrade knives.

Over the years I have had friends in Australia and the U.S. give me very collectable knives, as gifts.
Often I have bought and sold very collectable knives, with fellow collectors [with-out any thought of profit].

The 880s reminded me of such a time, when an Australian Collector had a large shipment of knives arrive from the U.S.A.
He phoned me and said "I have some 8OTs, 881s and 880s all in tubes" - "I hope you like them."
He had over spent and needed to sell all of the 8OTs, 881s and 880s [that he had paid $35 each for them]
He showed me the invoice and said, " that is your price if you want them".
The collectors on A.A.P.N. have helped me so much over the years, so keep up showing you knives... Ken
Marks on some of the blades, is the original dried-up grease or oil.

Koldgold those are some fine pieces The 881 is one of my very favorite knives anybody ever made.

Forgot I had this one. Is yellow okay in an 881? I'm assuming it's a 70's knife. Delrin scales, Schrade over NY USA tang stamp, on the back of the tube Ellensville NY is mentioned as the address in the Warranty statement.

Ken, those are as fine examples as exist anywhere. And rare ! I have never seen the blade with "1969" on it in any Schrade knife.

This one came in yesterday.

If I get a chance to get by a post office Scott has agreed to sell my an old carbon steel Schrade hawk bill folding knife!

KJ that's a good one! So this cut co came in today, does anybody know what pattern it would be? It's 3.5" and appears to be steel or iron lined and bolstered. Both blades have the same stamp, no other markings.

Not sure what that pattern is, but she is a beauty!

Maybe you should send it to me and I'll do the research to figure it out for you....lol

Looks like a 2153 model, without the 18" chain it originally came with.

It would be interesting to acquire a similar type of chain that this may have had and use it as intended. I've never had a chain on a knife before.

Thank you checksix, those old catalogs are mighty useful.

Schrade Cut Co knives with their original chain still attached show up on ebay a few times per year and usually sell for not much more than the same pattern without the chain.

It would help a lot of you measured the closed length of the knife. In looking at the knife pictures again, the 2153 has a swedge on the master and the 2253 Chain does not but the bolster looks different. This is where the old knives get tricky sometimes as they sometimes had knives not necessarily illustrated in the catalog, if it is a few years after the catalog year date.

The knife closed is 3 1/2". There are two pictures of the 2153 from what appear to be seperate catalogs, one lists as 3 3/8" and the other says 3 1/2". The swedges and bolster look the same as in the catalog to me.

Here's my C2153EO from the same timeframe as yours. This one is the 2 blade, easy open, 3-3/8".
