It's called black cherry smooth bone, it like all rough ryder's a great little knife for the money. $9.99 @ old smokey. I really like that shield wish they had one when I bought this one, I'd bought it.

I am a huge fan of the stripped-down, no-frills, minimalist look of smooth natural/white bone with no shield, engraving or embellishment of any sort. Very clean...very basic.
For comparison: Smooth Natural Bone with bomb shield

Thanks, Papa B. (when you gonna show us your Mini-Ts?)
O.K. "Q", since you called me out.
Glad I could contribute

Nice one, Smitty. I actually just remembered that you already showed a couple of your Mini-Ts over on the "Ode To The 07" thread. Fortunately, us hardcore Mini Trapperists appreciate an encore and never tire of looking at Mini-Ts over and over (which would explain why there are two separate active Mini Trapper threads).

Since I tend to concentrate on the Case Mini-T's (there are more of them which makes for easy pickin's), I forgot all about this Pacific Rim Roper.
Note it's marked PRC instead of just China. That's the first time I've seen that marking.

Nice deep emerald green bone on that one. Yep, I've noticed a few of the China made knives have got to the PRC stamp.

You guys with your beautiful green Mini-Ts are making it tough for me to make my
per diem selection. I wanna go green, but I also want to add one more to the basic white bone theme from yesterday...Hmmmm...what to do

what to do...?
Looks like the White Knight, Sir Parker-Edwards, slays the Green Dragon and wins the day.

Thou hast chosen wisely Sir Knight of The Eagle Blade!! I have that same pattern also, actually started to use it but decided on the Moss Green. The plant that built those is about 18 miles north of me. It is the same building that Bear & Sons use now.

That's pretty cool, Smitty. Too bad Bear & Sons didn't maintain the same quality level as Parker-Edwards (do you happen to be a fan of B&S, per chance?). I am generally quite impressed with the P-Es I have owned.

I do not own any newer B&S. I do have some, but all are more than 10 or 15 years old. There quality in the last 10 years or so have become sometimes quite questionable. Mainly in the fitment and finishing. Some products they produce are better than others. I have also not really checked any of the newer Remington products, which are also produced by B&S in the same plant. A lot of people might be surprised at some of the names they are contracted to produce. They have also produced knives for Moore Maker and Keen Kutter. They are also one of the few Stateside producers of Damascus Steel.
I've often wondered if their issues concerning variations in quality might be due to maybe putting their more skilled personnel on the Contract & Higher end knives and maybe the newer employees on the Bear products. Just speculation on my part.
Each year usually around October they have an Open House and a Public Appreciation Sale for three days. They will have sales on Knives they produce, and you can also buy stag blanks, pins, copper or brass liner material, and they will have discounted prices on 2nds, or knives that were made in excess of a contract. They also sale blade blanks, as well as Damascus still blade blanks, and even offer small sheets of it.
Several years ago I picked up a nice single blade linerlock Moore Maker 5160LLB in Natural Smooth Bone. Really Cheap. But When they produce a run for a contract, they will make overages in case the inspection process finds serious defects and they will replace it. If they have extras leftover, they will sanitize them by replacing the shield with a blank shield and polish the master blade to remove the tang stamp. Still a good quality knife, just without the tang stamp. Here is a photo of the one I bought. I will usually go to the sale, to see if they have some of the newer contract knives.

Smitty, I've been to that sale a few times, though not in the last 3 years or so.
There is a thread around here with pictures from the first time I went.
LOTS of seconds to pick through! I noticed they tended to not discount the more recent production stuff (ie, the Remingtons)

I only have less than a handful of the Bear & Son knives and the quality is mixed. Because of that, these days I pretty much avoid them.
That said, I didn't think I had anymore Mini-T's hiding in the weeds of my poor memory. A cursory search revealed this Pacific Rim Remington.

It came out of the clam-pak this way.

I think sometimes their pricing depends on how long they have had some of the inventory. Just speculation on my part. I didn't go last year, but went the year before. I did pick up a Remington. R-23 Waterfowl Knife with the serrated blade and choke tool for $20. The year before they had them for $39. Or maybe it depends on who is making out the price list for that particular year.

But I agree, sometimes they have some good deals, then on others not so far off from retail. I'll go every couple of years or so just to see what they have. I also check out their stag pieces especially to make grips for my 1911's.

Thanks Jerry. They say fruit is better, so have an apple. Well technically Case says it is Dark Red, but makes me think of a big juicy apple for some reason.

Smitty, the best I can tell, that appears to be a 2004 which originally came in a tin in a blisterpak. Ain't they pretty?

I've long been curious about the shield on that one...What is it called? I always thought it looked like a Manta Ray so I dubbed it a "manta" shield. But, I've seen it referred to (in two separate silverladdie eBay listings) as a "celebration" shield and as a "lamp" or "brass lamp" shield (although the shield itself was nickel silver, not brass).
I can't get a clear enough view of the shields in either jerryd's or Smitty's photos, so not sure they're exactly the same as the one on my Toasted Amber Bone 07W, but the medallion in the blister-pak appears to have some words on it; I wonder if they might shed some light?...like if it was only affixed to knives that were released to commemorate / celebrate some event or company milestone, for example, then calling it a "celebration" shield would make sense.
See, this is the type of Mini-T trivial minutiae that keeps OCD Monkey up late at night.
