Harold, i just now saw the Sta-Sharp Stockman you posted. Yes i do like it; has all the 'elements' i look for in the Sta-Sharps: bone handle, unused or only very lightly used & etch still visible including the Sears pattern #.
Most of the bone Sta-Sharps have been heavily used, often poorly sharpened with blade loss & short and etch long gone.
If you do want to send it along Harold, i'll mind it for you.

I would have taken pictures of the knife, however, the cellophane wrapper is very brittle and I do not want to destroy it. It still has the original factory lubrication on it and there is no reason to break up the cellophane wrapper at this point

She looks like she just came from the factory, even the original box. The Friend I got this from actually bought three of these from the same seller and I just had to have one!

Chase I absolutely agree. Plenty of examples, some I'm sure you own, that show what that pristine example of an electricians knife looks and feels like.

Chase I think any one of us would do the same. It would be a shame to disrupt it.

I recently received a Schrade-Walden still in the original cellophane wrapper and looked like it had never been removed. I did remove it. Old cellophane is brittle, i proved it.

Well I don't exactly have it yet, but this has been a grail knife of mine for a long time.

Schrade-Walden 881 with Peachseed jigged bone. Very nice. Now try for a bone S-W 880, same knife with saber ground clip. Much harder to find.

Yes, but it makes it a fun hunt. If unused it might have the "Kon-Kav" etch on the clip blade. Does anyone know if the bone 880 was etched or just the Delrin ones ?

I'm pretty sure I've seen a picture of a bone 880 with the kon kav etch, it may have been tongueriver's.

O.K., to anyone not totally familiar with Schrade, TR's mint 880 with bone & perfect etch is exceptionally rare and awesomely amazing.
Ranks right up there with a 2OT and a first year 8OT with bone.
You might never see another one.

So, here it is anyway and I picked out some bone 895's, 856, etc. plus the Primble 913.

No apologies called for in that very knice grouping. All great stuff! Schrade collecting is very rewarding. Some wonderful items are still readily available for a price that may not be prohibitive and there is always the promise of that special something. Try to keep back a little "extra" cash that you would have spent on food and the kids' clothing and pretty soon you have the secret stash for a 2 OT or some such.

Just got this electrician in. Some pepper, but otherwise 100%. Pre 1947. I like to collect the Cut.Co.s not only because I think they are the most beautiful Schrades (with many important exceptions), but because I was born within a few days of the transfer to Schrade Walden ownership.

I had no idea a bone 880 was so rare, it's taken me several years to find a bone 881 that wasn't worn out or broken. That's a fine electrician you have there Cal. This is my only cut co that I got a couple days ago, but with some luck (and a lot of money ) not for long!

That is an excellent example of a beautiful older USA pen knife. History, beauty and a quality tool, all in one package.
"Expensive" is a relative term. With persistence & patience you can pick up bone handled Schrade-Walden or Schrade Cut Co. knife, used but still a good knife for around $100 on ebay. You need to 'watch' many Schrade auctions but eventually one will happen to get very little bidding and sell 'low'.
If you are a collector who only collects minty examples then these are expensive, meaning about $300 and up. Relative to Case knives of same age & condition, Schrade knives are not expensive, but a bargain.

I was mostly making a stab at my funds Thanks for the kind words, I think I did pretty well with that one at $39. I have seen a lot of the older bone cut co's and waldens sell on ebay for real bargains compared to similar cases and other brands, makes it easier for us schrade collectors.

Wow ! $39 for such a beautiful old Schrade Cut. Co. is one of the best deals i have heard of this year. It's a good example of how the patient, persistent knife hunter can build a a fine collection of old Schrade knives without spending 'big bucks'.
By contrast, there are so many Case collectors that a good vintage example almost never flies under the radar to give the buyer a deal like this, as you have already pointed out.
Unfortunately posting enthusiastic comments about any brand can serve to increase interest and therefore bidding on ebay which leads to higher prices.
