Last week I hauled some kitchen cabinets and miscellaneous furniture out to my cabin, which has been under construction since 2018. I hope to have it all done by the time I turn 70.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Ike, the nearest neighbour is just over a mile away. There are 5 other cabins within about 2 miles. It is an 8 1/2 mile boat ride, or ice road drive, to the road. My Dad and I built the original cabin in 1970. Lost it to a forest fire in 2015.

danno50, my post is about 180 degrees from your beautiful snow pictures, it deals with fire and Florida weather.
I'm going to share a few pictures of a small controlled burn I did yesterday. This is a small block of planted pines about 5 acres, adjacent to my food plot. This area had not been burned since March of 2017. The pines destroyed by Hurricane Michael in October 2018 have deteriorated to the point where most of those downed can be snapped with a tractor and a loader bucket. That process allowed me to reestablish the old fire breaks and get a safe burn. There are still many pine logs still on the ground that can be pushed into small piles and burned later on. The cost to have a contractor clean up this type land is cost prohibitive to me. I'd never recoup the expense by planting trees at my age. We chose not to cut the pines in this small block when we had the other blocks cut after the storm. The standing timber was cut and sold and then the downed timber was salvaged and sold to a pellet mill at $1.00 a ton. At least we don't have to deal with those pines as I'm doing in the small block. Very good pictures and explanation! I remember as a little kid my Pa burning off the pasture fields in the early spring. It sure made for some good thick green grass later on!

Treefarmer, good pictures of your controlled burn. The area around my cabin had not burned for quite some time, so there was quite a large fire load of dead fall. The pictures below show the cabin before the fire, immediately after, and as it sits now.

Dan, that sure is a pretty piece of real estate!

Scott, when my son lived in Germany and we would visit in the winter time, at every out door event there would always be several of those burning. Very neat stove!

I believe it was West Texas.

I was out on the Honda today, doing trail maintenance and checking out the hunting huts. Had several trees to chainsaw out of the way.

I see I'm not the only one to enjoy using old office chairs in the shooting house.
