All About Pocket Knives

Knives from the North Star Blade Collectors meeting today. The pearl is a H.S.&B whittler with real nice pearl(no cracks) and great snap for a whopping $35. It's bolsters are fancy aluminum. Note the nice double pull on the master blade The rest were a little more spendy. The Yellow is a near mint, unused Robeson 812872 Shuredge with clear blade etch. The large jack (4 1/2 inches) is a Shapleigh Hdr. curved stamp and super nice bone. The three blade/ three spring is a Challenge that appears to have been cleaned, but has had little use with full blades and near perfect scales and frame. The pearl is going to get some pocket time.____Dave

Dave, that challenge is a beauty, let me know if you ever get tired of it... ..here's what I got today, I've been looking for a 293 and who can turn down a good little 64..both are bone and the 293's shield is not the federal shield, so it might be a little bit older.. both are very well made knives.. ~Jon

Dang! Thant 293 is definitely nice but the 64 is SWEET. Great find.

Dave those are wonderful old knives. Your knife club intrigues me. You sure come away with some great stuff.

Knice old bones Mr Porter.

Here’s what followed me home from the Red Barn today. The little two blade bone is a mystery as is the gold Gentleman’s. There are no marks at all on the bone and the gold is still rusted shut. I got the scales cleaned up fairly well. It was totally disgusting. I got the pair for five bucks which is probably $4 too much. I mostly just liked ‘em!
The other two are Richards. The little one is in kind of rough shape, but it was $4.
I seem to be working on a whole set of this colour of celluloid! This big guy is number five. I don’t think it’s ever been sharpened and it’s in quite good shape. I’m happy!

Great pick ups ZG. You seem to be becoming the Richards expert. Lots of fun for not much money, you did good.

Garddogg, that little whittler looks sweet.

Here’s the Sunday haul, As you can see, I got my big Queen! The little white sleeve board is also a Richards. The fob knife is petty sweet and a different pattern on the scales from my other one that size and I just plain fell in love with the very battered old A. Fields & Co. Progress. I knew it was very old. Pre 1942, as it turns out, and possibly much older than that. It was five bucks and I probably got ripped off, but it’s an HOK and deserves a gentle retirement.

I’ll post Saturdays Gentlemans agaain because I finally got it open.

I forgot to add, the new little gold fob is an Imperial Prov RI.
TripleF, I saw the identical crate hammer at the Red Barn in Vancouver on Saturday! I didn’t ask the price. I have one, a bit different design, that was from my dad’s first job, c. 1927.

Zoo gal nice haul

I got a couple of oddballs today.
The first one is a dagger, made in Pakistan, that my son’s buddy was going to toss out with a bunch of junk. The kid rescued it and passed on to me.
The second is a silver, plated, I assume, CN Rail dinnerknife which has been filed into a shiv!
I don’t even want to know...

By the logo, it’s 1960 or later. I can just imagine some guy grabbing it in a boxcar or something and giving it a little modification. I got it at a Talize (like Value Village) and paid $.20 for it. A bargain! It’s actually pretty sharp and surprisingly heavy.
The sheath was from the same friend of the kid. I suppose it’s for throwing knives. Solid leather and quite well made.

A strange haul but kinda cool!

Interesting knives Ann, the kind that if price is low i find hard to resist. You are definitely a besotted knifer, as am i.

Here are a couple I picked up yesterday at my local antique shop. Slim pickins but a couple bucks a piece I couldn't resist. I think the tang says Simmons Hardware on the red one. I could be wrong. Hard to read. And the little silver one I believe is a watch fob knife after researching here on AAPK. It has MSR Co on the bail and main. Thanks for looking.

I quite like the pattern on the red, but that fob makes my little heart go pitterpat! I’ve taken to nabbing that type along with my Richards. I call them ‘jewelry knives’. It’s lovely!

Well today I got a few for the first time in awhile.Not too bad.
First is a Camco single blade fish knife that the liner lock was bent on(easy fix)and some curling of the front part of the handles(black composition)due to dirt piling up under them.Straightened the lock and pulled up the handles(they are pressed onto projections made from piercing the liners and bending them up)and cleaned it out and set them back in position with a little CA adhesive.$5.
Second was a Gerber Bolt Action with a gut hook blade that needed nothing. $10.
Third was a tiny Sharp folder with imprinted scrimshaw of two ducks.$7.
Fourth was a similar sized lock back by GPI of Japan with real scrimshaw in color(!) for the same price.
Last was a Hyde utility knife with wood handle(an older model)for $4.

I snatched this little copperhead today at the local pawnshop. I thought it was the same color as a little gunstock I have, but it looks different when they are together.. neither of them have a box, so does anybody have some idea of what series/color it is?
