Good lookin read's mates, how did the books turn out Steve? There selling that tombstone reasonable on ole amazon, should I put it on my bucket list?

Been slowly chewing through this un, excellent read IMHO. Should be on everyone's bucket list, who loves history . Bout halfway done now (ya, I'm a slow-ish reader .

I started with "Shotguns and Stagecoaches" and just finished it up a couple days ago. Haven't read the other two yet. I'm not a fast reader to begin with, and I don't have time to read every day.
Since I like to alternate fiction and non-fiction, I started Louis L'Amour's "Bowdrie" yesterday.

As for "Tombstone", although I haven't read it yet, I have read Clavin's "Dodge City" and "Wild Bill". Both were great reads. I have no doubt "Tombstone" will be just as entertaining.

If you don't mind reading used books, Abe Books, www.abebooks.com , has some good deals.

I am debating whether to subscribe to True West. I bought the previous one which had Zapata on the cover. Enjoyed that edition which clarified some things for me.

Why not try it for a year? 10 issues, $30. Where else can you find a magazine today for $3?

cudgee I appreciate the push, its just that in the past year or so I have been divesting myself of many subscriptions. This would go against the flow. Yet, I may still go with it. I'm giving it more thought.

Like most magazines, it's going to have articles that may not be your thing, but, overall, I've been enjoying it.

I’ve been a True West subscriber for years. Usually a cover-to-cover read for me although occasionally I’ll skip an article that doesn’t interest me. Abe Lincoln had it right - “You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

I just finished the first chapter.
While my book is a 2012 copy, it was originally written in 1944. Writing styles have certainly changed!
Raine, the author, has a rather choppy style, in my opinion. We'll see how far I make it through this one.

Steve, I’ve really enjoyed some “older” novels written in the early through mid 1900s. In particular some western historical fiction and western history authored by those who lived it, or were able to talk with and hear the experiences of those who lived it. Your comment about how writing styles have changed is accurate, and IMHO they’ve not changed for the better. I’ve read several of the novels written by the likes of Zane Grey, Ernest Haycox, Owen Wister, Eugene Rhodes, and Paul Wellman. I recommend them all as proven outstanding storytellers, but you need a dictionary close by as some of the words are no longer common in today’s usage. Wellman is of particular interest - he was a bestselling author in his day. He wrote both the novel and movie screenplay for classics like The Comancheros, The Iron Mistress, Cheyenne , and several others.
