I just got the scope mounted and am working up some loads with 40, 45, 50, and 55gr bullets to chronograph. How long or short the barrel is has no connection to accuracy. After some weather related delays, I was finally able to get sighted in at 50 yards. When I was about 13 or 14 years old, I found one of those model 67A Winchesters in a pawn shop but the owner would not sell it to me. I cajoled my dad to go in with me and 'we' bought the rifle for $12. My dad loved to do checkering so he checkered the fore end and the pistol grip. I must have killed 500 squirrels with it, well lots of them anyway. I could see really well back then and with that rifle I head shot almost all of them. Anyway, this little Winchester 67A followed me home. The stock has a few dings and scuffs on it, but I shot a few subsonic .22 shorts through it, and it's a sweet little gun. It was made in the early 1950s, as near as I can tell. I will see if I can steam some dents out and clean up the stock, and it will make a nice first rifle for my grandson in a few years.

I paid $80 for this one and felt like I stole it. I didn't really need another old .22, but figured it would be a great starter gun for the grandkid (he's not even 2 yet - so it will be a few years down the road.) And I couldn't pass up an old Winchester for that price.At the time, I thought Dad would have tried to negotiate the price but he looked down the barrel and told the man 'we'll take it'. Floyd, I've got a 67A youth model around here somewhere. When I got interested in Winchesters I read about the short barrel youth model 22 and I figured it would be a good rifle to search for. Finally found one and made a deal on it. Maybe tomorrow I'll look for it a do a little "show and tell". There are probably 2 or 3 of those old 22s around here, I think one is a model 67, I believe it doesn't have the safety device.doglegg wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2026 12:16 am My first rifle was also a 67A. We had a nice lunch of barbecue, then headed off to downtown Fort Worth. He had booked us a reservation at a place called Sandlot VR, a virtual reality place. So we put sensors on our ankles, wrists, and choose our weapons. I chose the gatling gun, another friend chose the shotgun, another a pair pistols, and then an AR. The shotgun, pistols, and AR reloaded by pointing them at the ground for a second or two. The gatling gun was good in that it never needed to reload, but not so good in that it had a 2 or 3 second delay after pulling the trigger while it "spun up" before it started firing. We then put on the VR headsets, and the zombie apocalypse was on. When the zombies are coming at you fast, that delay on the gatling gun gets a little too exciting. I finished up with the highest body count, but with the lowest accuracy (as you would expect with a gatling gun). My buddy won the "Crown" (highest accuracy) with the shotgun. Of course he had played a few times with his family, so he had a little experience / advantage. The pistols and AR did not fare so well. I put a link below where you can watch 2 videos of us. My daughter thought it was funny that the videos cut from all the Virtual Reality action, and then it changes to 4 old gray-haired farts standing around in the rectangle. I highly recommend doing this - it was a blast, and I plan on taking the family this summer. I used some snap caps to let my wife get familiar with the double action on her new .38 Special before we took it to the range. I do not dry fire my weapons, so I never bought or used any snap cap or dummy rounds.
But, now I have one to use on my .40 caliber. So, I think I’ll try it out.
