Cool picture, bighomer. Back in my dad's early B&O railroad days, he ran a magnetic scrap metal crane at the Bolt & Forge yards in Cumberland loading hopper cars. The only lubrication the crane got was his Redman chewing tobacco.

I guess the novelty wore off in a hurry, but that sounds like a dream job!

Ike I worked for a little company in Old Hickory TN. Called E.I. DuPont de Nemours and company. In 71 I went to the power plant and my first job there was coal handler, unloading coal hopper cars for coal fired steam generators.
Did that for purdy near a year.
Redrider I use to mix in a little Redman with my rough country twist when I was hankering for some dessert.

I was driving past a UP coal train (ho hum) headed in the opposite direction as me, on tracks that paralleled the road....then I get to the end and see this KCS loco being used as a pusher. This unit is pretty dingy but sports one of my all time favorite color schemes of the RR world. I sure hate to see this company go by the wayside.

Great photos fellers x10. I watched a show about the freight train painters the other day, man some these guys are as bad as dope addicts, losing their families and such because they couldn't quit. Some got crippled doing this stuff and are still into it. Blows my mind.

Very true, cudgee. My brother is able to work from home but my sister-in-law cannot. So he takes care of the girls mostly, especially when they're not in school.

Ike I hear you, hated it when the old L&N was bought up years ago then consolidated into CSX. It is by far our major rail sevice provider if not the only one. There may be other companies using the tracks.
At times you'll see and old engine with some other lines name on it but seldom any more. A few years ago I saw a couple of Union Pacific engines mixed in with the CSX's.
Something I've noticed in the last few years most of the trains I see coming through here has 2 engines or sometimes 3 up front, one or more in the middle and sometimes one at the rear, whereas they used to have 3 or 4 up front. I wonder if this is more convenient when stopping along the route and adding or removing cars.
I know one thing they are pulling a lot more cars now. if you have to wait on one you wish you brought a lunch.

I watch train spotting (and get pics) on YouTube.
Longest I've seen was just under 20,000 feet.

Thanks, Willy. The brown Illinois Central was my dad's, along with the American Flyer steam engine. The Rock Island steam engine and the Chessie and Santa Fe diesels were given to me around the age of 8 -10, hard to believe they're about 45 years old.

After we take the tree down that will free up more yards space. Running 2 transformers now but I have a 3rd and some ideas.
