Today, this one came home with me from the hardware store. I just couldn't bare to walk out without it. Some of that Kirinite is just too pretty to leave on the shelf.

Jerry - I've always been a fan of kirinite (especially the patriotic kirinite) ... that swirly blue one may be the best I've seen - very nice ! I think my favorite part of that knife is how nicely the white shield sets off the blue kirinite ::tu::

If you get a chance to handle one, I'll bet it won't come unstuck from your hand. ::super_happy::

Yep - the kirinite and corelon that Case uses does have a nice feel / texture - it's not slippery at all, which is what I expected initially. They also tend to be a bit thinner feeling that jigged bone - which is a plus (for me). Apparently, alot of other Case guys feel the same way ... NEVER do we see a sweatheart deal on eBay for a corelon or kirinite knife - never ever - too many guys hunting them.

Nice pick up, jerryd. I am a huge fan of the blues (music as well as knife handles) and I agree with John, the white shield really sets off the blue pearl kirinite quite nicely.

Curious how the hardware store price compares to online prices...higher, lower or about the same?

I paid $65.95 +Tax. I'm pretty sure it was the only one he had. There was one more Mini-Trapper in the display. It was a small display.

I looked on eBay yesterday. The average low price is $58.xx or $59.xx. Some with free shipping. So not a huge spread.

I like that you support your local hardware store. ::tu::
I prefer to buy local whenever I can, but, unfortunately, due to my location, I don't have too many opportunities. I already bought all the knives I want from my local ACE, Lowe's and Home Depot...but again, unfortunately, none of these chains seem interested in selling traditional slipjoint pocketknives (well, to be fair, ACE does have an old Case display case that's been sitting half-empty (or half full) for the past 9 or 10 years and it doesn't look like it's going to be restocked anytime soon :( ).

It's good to read that Case's Kirinite does not feel slippery. Looking at pictures I presumed it to be a smooth hard plastic. Does it feel like Delrin? Case would be smart to assemble some Mini-Ts with Kirinite and Wharncliff blades. We all know QTCut5 would not be able to restrain himself and I'd be tempted.

The two Ace Hardware Stores within 20 miles of me also have old Case display cases with only a few Case knives left. They stock Mini and standard size Trappers and one Stockman, either a red 6318 Pocket Worn medium Stockman or a 6347 Stockman. There's also a Tractor Supply that stocks standard Trappers and 6344 small Stockmans. The best selling Case by far is the yellow Delrin CV #54 Trapper. All their prices are about the same as Shepard Hills.

And if they're REALLY smart...they'll offer it in a _107W pattern (10107W to be precise); I'll buy the first ten knives off the production line myself (10 x 10107W). In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing a whole line of Kirinite-handled 107Ws...or any new 107Ws that aren't yellow Delrin, for that matter (with apologies to the millions of fans of the ever-popular yellow Delrin 3254CV). Stag, ivory and bone are still my personal preferences, but OCD Monkey is mesmerized by some of the shiny sparkly Kirinite covers. :shock:

It was very kind of Lansky1 to agree to the swap that resulted in a new home (with me) for his beautiful blue 2016 CCC 6207. As an added bonus, he transformed it into a one-of-a-kind CCC Trappcliffe. Then, just because he's such a stand up guy, he performed an encore of his trademark Trappcliffe tango on another 07 from my collection.

As I was carefully arranging my new 07s in their proper places in the storage case, OCD Monkey suddenly became fixated on the blues (he's a sensitive little monkey) and forced me to drag some out and take a few photos to parade around (he's also an incorrigible little show off) :roll:

Hey Q - glad you like your new trappcliffe's ! I literally LOL'd on the ... wharncliffe whisperer :mrgreen: I even learned a new word - thaumaturge (although not sure it applies to my cobbed up transmorphigations), but I appreciate the sentiment nonetheless. ::handshake::

Here's a really sweet 207 that came my way from our resident HI member Q ... really vivid tangerine burst:

PS - I mistakenly deleted the OCD monkey artwork from the above post that Q sent along with the blue 6207 that I trappcliffe-ized. I thought it was clever & was too good not to share with our AAPK friends --->

This one showed up yesterday. Had to wait until the morning light to take pictures. I'm really pleased with the handles and the blade etch/stamp.

The Antique Bone on your new Mini-T is very nice, indeed, jerryd, and I too like that deep stamp on the clip blade.

I think the difference between Amber Bone and Antique Bone is fairly obvious; but, does anyone happen to know the difference between Antique Bone and Antique Amber Bone? Is there a difference in the actual dying process or is it merely a marketing naming issue? ::shrug:: I've looked at examples of each and just when I think I can tell them apart, I see one like jerryd's that's called Antique Bone but looks just like Antique Amber Bone to me.

BTW-I told him not to say anything because I'm sure it's just a typo, but...OCD Monkey's undies are all twisted and bunched due to the text on the photo showing "2009" for a 2019 release. (Well...that's why it's called OCD :roll: )

:lol: :lol: I noticed that and fixed it before I read this portion of your post (honest Injun). I "fixed" that mess about four times before I posted the knife and now twice after I posted it. It all started when I copied a couple of pictures from Shepherd Hills that was actually a 2008. Of course the knife I actually got was a 2019. The pictures from Shepherd Hills were a different format and I had to change it to .jpg so it would work on AAPK and the background turned from white to black which was okay by me. I kept getting bollixed up and turned around with the year and the end result was about the 4th iteration that you noticed. I think I have it all straight now. You gotta keep a sharp eye on me. You don't have to blame the monkey. I'm okay with you (or anyone else) noticing I blew up in a cloud of shirt. ::facepalm::

Ah, jerryd, jerryd, jerryd...your dedication and commitment to perfection are nothing short of amazing. You truly are an inspiration to OCD Monkey. (And I mean that in only the very best sense of the word ::nod:: )

On the (arcane) subject of Antique Bone vs. Antique Amber Bone, allow me to submit for your consideration and perusal the following examples of each in a side-by-side comparison.

Top = Antique Bone
Bottom = Antique Amber Bone
P2060001.JPG
Admittedly, they each have a different type of jigging, but it seems to me that the Antique Amber Bone (bottom) has noticeably more red hues than the Antique Bone (top).

Perhaps it is merely due to the lighting, but, to me, jerryd's Antique Bone 07 looks more like Antique Amber Bone (especially the pile side) despite the name on the box label. I only bring this up because it's something that had vexed OCD Monkey and, up until now, he was satisfied he had it all sorted, settled and figured out. ::undecided:: (Trust Case to throw a monkey wrench into the Monkey's cerebral machinery! :? )
