That's a nice one!

I like the one with W.V. stamp too!

Thanks! I just posted another one made in W.V. here on this thread today.

I think I've got it again. Here's a better pic of the Elwell logo.

Thanks again for the photos

I am going to do some research on the Elwell logo/company now that my interest is piqued.

Here is one that I cleaned up, painted and put a handle on it. I think this is a Collins, the stamping "B 46" as I remember, is a similar stamp to one on a Collins axe that I owned.

Here a couple I was cleaning up and getting ready to put handles on them. I love the old Plumbs

Here is a Sandvik from Sweden. I cleaned it up and put a handle on it. I left some of the original paint on it but got all rust off. It is a great light-weight field axe.

Those are really nice axes TOPDOG.
That little Sandvik looks like it would be very handy out and about.

Still can't believe I'm getting interested in axes.

My kind of restoration project though!

I'll leave the knives to the experts out there!

That is sweet! I like that axe!!!

I think I have an OCHSENKOPF GRÜN manchette that I am going to clean up. It has the cow's head stamp on it, so I think it made by OCHSENKOPF GRÜN.

I have shown the double-bit before but it such a beautiful axe...

I loaded those pictures as well. I put a a handle on a nice Craftsman carpenter's hatchet and it has a razor sharp edge...taking pictures of that this weekend...

Another pair of hand forged medieval weapons; A Viking axe and war hammer. Both are made with Damascus steel. The axe blade is a Damascus billet forge-welded into a softer steel.

It's a shame so many old singles had to play double duty as a wedge, or maul, and got the Polls beat to death. If my Dad ever saw me beating on a wedge with a single bit I would have gotten my rear end tore up. Maybe being in the tree business, we had a little more respect for a specific tool for a specific job. Old farm auctions are the worse ones for finding beat up singles. I guess if all you have is a single and a wedge, you gotta do, what you gotta do. Back then they were just a tool.

Today I went my buddies house for coffee and he was talking about splitting wood with a wedge by beating on the wedge with a single bit...

I said "you are losing weight" he said "I am splitting up fire wood" then he went on to tell the tale of woe...

I would really like to find one of those Marbles in good condition. They may have been a lot of different companies, or divisions of the same company, I don't know. But, I have Marbles knives, sights for my 1899 Savage rifles, and an Oak Marbles office chair.

And a lot of reproductions. I've been looking for an actual Safety Axe (the kind with the folding guard). Seems 3/4 are reproducitons selling for over $150, and good old ones, "Don't even think about it".
I have the plastic handle one SMKW sells. Gets the job done, and I've beat the heck out of mine, but it's uncomfortable and kinda cheap.
