The Magnus Hansen ivory handle/sheath dagger (above) will be auctioned in October by Cowan's Auctions.

I just bought "AN ILLUSTRARED HISTORY OF WEAPONS: KNIVES, DAGGERS" by David Soud. I was shocked to see my carved ivory dagger on page 135 -- the entire page devoted to it! I called the Berman Museum and confirmed that the photo was of a dagger from that collection. Mine is exactly the same down to the finest detail (see the photos posted this site under Scandinavian Fixed Blades 8/22/13). I'm very proud to have owned this. However, it's consigned to auction 10/21/14 with Cowan's Auctions. Small world....

I see your talking about Scandinavian dress nice . I have one that I was told was a Scandinavian dress knife but I'm not sure. I found it in my grandfathers dresser after he passed in 1994 and have found out a lot more on here then anywhere else.

Adding my Puukko to this site. If you look closely there’s the JM in a circle that’s embossed on the upper portion of the sheath. Is this possibly an original John martini?

Very nice sheath. Wish I could answer your question. I also wish the mod's could merge this thread and the Puukko thread and call it NORDIC KNIVES. First of all there are now 27 pages in the two threads and both of them are posting the same stuff. Secondly, Finnish knives, which are possibly the most iconic of the lot are not Scandinavian because Finland is not in Scandinavia. Thirdly, there is no agreed-upon definition for puukko amongst the 'forest' people and the 'trees' people. Fourthly, some of the best examples of Nordic knives are coming from Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. makers. Fifthly, how about that Viking stuff, seaxes and swords and suchlike? Hope this makes sense? Anyway, two of my favorite threads!
