Recently, this souvenir or tourist pocket knife arrived and it now becomes the latest example to join this topic or thread and to join my general pocket knife collection. It was in a very large group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. However, I did not buy the group or lot to obtain this particular pocket knife. It is a U.S.A., one blade, one tang stamp, 1 1/2" closed (not including the loop or ring), souvenir or tourist pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "U.S.A." The main handle side says "FRANCISCAN MONASTERY" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. Except for a tiny crack at the pivot pin, on the main handle side, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. Some minor cleaning was needed. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is a U.S.A., two blades, one tang stamp, 3 1/2" closed, souvenir or tourist pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "U.S.A." The main handle side says "GETTYSBURG,PA." and has a complete, intact, image of a cannon and cannon balls. The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It needed a very minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is a MADE IN GERMANY, two blades, one tang stamp, 3 1/4" closed, souvenir or tourist pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "MADE IN (over) GERMANY" The main handle side says "IDAR - OBERSTEIN" and has a complete, intact, image of a city, town or village. The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. No cleaning was necessary. I took some pictures and here it is.

Found this in Snow Hill, MD today. Anton Wingen, 1888-now. Can't say who the big wigs on the handles are. The picture shows soldiers in battle and the motto' says. "EINIGKEIT MACHT STARK" , which translates to UNITY MAKES STRENGTH. This may be a reference to the unification of Germany in 1871 under Otto Von Bismarck. The knife may be a commemorative from 1921 (50 years?) Not sure. Anyone recognize the faces?

I think Skip is correct, I believe it is Kaiser Wilhelm ll and Franz Joseph of Austria. The knife commemorates the unity of Germany and Austria as WW 1 was beginning in August of 1914. That is a fascinating piece, J O', great find.

Thanks Skip and Ike, that makes a lot of sense. It's interesting how knife makers respond to events, or maybe they were commissioned? I had an "Airplane Knife" with Hitler, Hirohito, and Mussolini on the scales that was similar to this. I traded it to a guy who has an aircraft carrier museum in New York for an L.F.C. heavy bladed hunter . Sold the LFC and I've regretted both deals ever since. Thanks again. J.O'.

you were spot on with that, he does resemble Johnny, or more correctly, Johnny resembles him.
