I wouldn't normally post two identical knives as "pairs" for the purposes of this thread but I realized as I was poking around Q&A that I really didn't have much of a Q about this, more of a "hmm, interesting." So here it goes.
I'd been looking for a dead mint example of my 10 dot rose Appaloosa bone peanut since I got my hands on one, because I wanted to start carrying the little guy regularly and didn't want to cringe every time I dinged the bolster or let the blade patina or scratch. My old one is still in fantastic shape, but not really in a condition worth sticking in the safe. Long story short, I stumbled across another 10 dot in perfect condition and snatched it up. As I eyeballed my new acquisition and made sure everything was in order, I noticed something curious...
The pins on my newer pickup are nickel silver or maybe steel, it seems. Both knives are otherwise identical, both have brass liners and carbon blades, and neither look altered in the slightest from the factory. This is actually the first Case I've ever come across with brass liners and nickel or steel pins (I'm guessing the former).
So I guess the only real Q I can come up with is: Have any of you Case gurus run across a variation like this, especially in a popular pattern like the #20? I'm not getting ahead of myself thinking there's any sort of rarity here, but it appears to be an unusual variant in my somewhat limited experience. What say you?

I have two fraternal twin Remington Barlows that were obviously built by the same company and are practically identical to the well-known 1980s(?) German reproductions which often make their way around various internet stores and auctions and occasionally fetch well over their generally-accepted retail value considering the vintage and general availability these days... but is not marked as such.
In comparison with pics of a representative German repro-stamped Barlow
here and
here (
source), the build appears identical. The only oddities are the lack of a "repro" stamp and the fact that the smooth bone has a pen blade -- I have not seen any 2-blade German repro-marked Barlows as of yet. There is no evidence on either knife that a stamp was worn off, and I am almost certain there was never one on either knife. I wonder if these were early runs or perhaps intended for certain areas of export?

Love the Antique bone and the badge type shield on that 2010 Mini T. Beautiful.

That blue one is a real treat, fantastic jigging (almost grooving, really), great color pattern and that Damascus swirl pattern is great -- I sometimes get bored of all the Case knives with the raindrop pattern...

Ivoryman, is that boxelder GP on the left the one they still have pictured (but sadly "sold out") on the TSA site? I was so disappointed to see the remaining GPs that I pulled back the reins on a purchase until I can reevaluate the handles I want now. I think you got the cream of the crop...
Remembered that I had these two, late Camillus stainless jacks with the "WHAT-A-KNIFEā¢" stampings. Lots of the 2-blades around but from my experience the 1-blade seems to be a little rarer. This one is completely unused and came from the factory dangerously sharp, even though the bevel is unfinished and has that slight roughness so many later Camilluses featured. A few strops would clean it right up but the caplifter on the 2-blade makes it way more useful.

The master blades are different; on the single it is actually a little thinner which makes the knife vanish into a watch pocket, while on the double it's a thicker clip with some simple swedging. I've always wondered what other sort of variations they might have built in this pattern...

My read on these two stockmen is that they are related. As we all know, Imperial acquired Schrade in 1946 and many of their classic knives were made under that umbrella. This Diamond Edge Imperial 4" stockman seems to be built on the same frame as the older Schrade 8OT. The blades are ground differently and the Imperial is all stainless, but the rough dimensions are similar to the old carbon blades and the swedging resembles some of the Schrade-made Sears/Craftsman clip blades from my collection.

I have posted this picture before and thought it would also fit this topic. These are a couple of Case Tested era swing guard lock back patterns. The 61050L is quite a bit larger then the 6111 1/2. Based on the shields, I believe these are early Tested era examples.

You just gave me a "serious case" of Case Envy Syndrome, Ralph. Absolutely immaculate old bone Cases, thanks for sharing!

Jerry you can post those several more times and I don't think anyone will object. Two magnificent specimens!

Thanks for the gracious comments.
QT, the closed length of the C61050L is 5 1/4 inches. I don't have it handy to measure the open length, but I would guess close to 9 1/2 inches open. It's a hand full. The picture has a shadow which makes the blade look bigger than it really is. I have a few of the non-locking 050 coke bottle knives and the blade on the 050L seems about the same size, however the 050L blade has more curvature (top and bottom) toward the blade tip.
