All About Pocket Knives

I don't know about rare...but I'll put this in the "Once it was a really nice knife...now it's junk" category. I got this Camillus in a box of about 20 knives. When I first saw it, I thought I had a great find. The front bone is beautiful. From there, it appears to be a story of "Mods gone bad". It would appear that someone broke off the tip and reprofiled it. From there, I'm guessing the tip was exposed, in the easy open well...so they decided to grind the kick down, to drop the tip down....unfortunately that submerged the beautiful long pull, leaving no access to open the blade. So, it would seem, the ModMaster decided to grind out some of the easy open well, and put a crappy "nail nick" on the opposite side, to have any kind of access to the blade. I have no idea why most of the side of the blade has been ground off, or why they decided to grind a notch out of the base of the blade. I feel really sorry for this knife...will probably throw a little Acraglas repair in the area of broken out bone. It actually cuts pretty well.

I've never seen anything quite like that before.

Sure wish this large 4 3/4" ivory Taylor Sportsmans knife did not have a broken blade, other than that it's in good shape for pre 1890.

In great shape if some idiot hadn'yt used the main blade as a pry bar. Stan Shaw replaced the corkscrew.

He would have replaced the main blade too but didn't have one the right size. He also pointed out that getting the bolster work back right after that would be nearly impossible so he just reshaped what was there.

My only Barnett Plier Knife has a broken blade and a slightly mangled "screw bit", but is otherwise in good condition.. Still better than one with a wrong blade, as you seem to see a lot of. Got it from a member of another board (who'd planned to rebuild it yet like me, never got around to it) for $20. Still, you see them in even worse shape, for more money. Forged tool steel everything, something multitools don't have anymore and suffer as a result. And with the Barnett predating the Leatherman by almost a century, I feel the Barnett, not the Leatherman, is the "Original American Multitool".

I don't know about rare or anything, but it's be nice if they were in better condition!

Just found this one today at an local antique shop...
an old 3¼" Schrade Cut Co. Jack with the arched tang stamp that dates it to between 1904−17.
Just wish the blades were not so used up...
