It`s in real nice condition, those don`t get much respect from collectors, although the Vietnam war era ones are being collected.

The problem is that the all metal handle is ugly, IMO If they had bone or even wood they would be collected more.

Not to mention the back springs often break on these

So far as I know, those knives were only issued to two outfits; The 10th Mountain Division and The 1st Special Service Force, sometimes referred to as "The Devil's Brigade", a forerunner, along with OSS, of today's Army Special Forces.

I have found so many variations it is unbelievable

1. Nickle Silver grooved bolsters

2. Smooth Nickle silver bolsters.

3. Steel grooved bolsters.

4. The "U.S." stamp on the bail is different.

5. Nickle silver pins

6. Brass pins.

7. Steel pins.

8. Different jigged bone handles.

9. Different can openers.

10. Different tang stamps.

11. Different Phillips screwdriver location.

12. Different liners.

And of course every time I find a different variation I need to buy an example of it

It'd be kind of interesting to know if the military specs changed or if Ulster made the changes on their own, leading to so many different variations. Or was it a case of different variations, for different purposes? Looks like the flat style permanent bail was pretty much standard issue.

Cole's Book III on U. S. Military Knives shows several different variations, but I believe Dimitri has identified several more using the finer points of liner and pin material, etc.

WWI era Camillus rope knife......

I think that I probably only have three to add and not 100% sure they are all WWII

Camillus four-line stamp Easy Open Lineman's set. Camillus TL-29 (unmarked as such) un-used and unsharpened, four-line stamp, brass frame and liner, steel bolsters, two steel pins and two brass pins; Boker TL-13A pliers, again unused and the pouch. The knife I am sure is WWII, the pliers are more-than-likely WWII and the pouch I just don't know Imperial-Prov. R.I. (1936-1952) mint Navy Aviation Knife. Jigged bone handles. Was coated in cosmoline when I got it.

Here is a never been used J.H. THOMPSON CUTLERY LTD SHEFFIELD rope knife. It states "1955 OIL THE JOINTS". It looks to be a contract knife for the British Royal Navy? Does any one know more about this company then what Goins' states? I really like this knife, especially when it cost less than half as much as a plate of fish n' chips
