Jerry, if that knife hadn't been given to me by a dear friend, I'd fix you up with it.

The ol boy that gave it to me is a retired Army Colonel. During his time in 'Nam he spent a lot of it up in the central highlands working with the "Yards".

He's a close friend and we've carried each other out of more than one bar on many occasions.

It is a HELL of a knife, but it is BUTT ugly.. LOL

I have three friends like that. They're hard to come by and take a long time to develop so when ya get one, ya gotta treat 'em right.

This was my second Buck Knife and the first one I bought - came from the PX at Aberdeen Proving Ground MD in the fall of 1976. I was attending the Ordnance Officers Basic Course and found out that I could join the APG Rod and Gun Club and hunt on post, needed a skinning knife for deer so I bought this Buck 105 fixed blade, my roomate and hunting buddy bought a Buck 110 folder. I used it for my skinner until my wife bought me a Marbles in 2003. It still has a great edge on it (I use ceramic sticks).

Those Bucks are a great purpose made knife. I bought one for my son when he went to Montana to live with his mother's cousin and finish high school. On his first Antelope hunt, it came up missing after a long stalk. I bought another for him that Christmas and he lost it too. I gave up.

The top knife is an American company A.J.Jordan built in Sheffield. The middle is Unmarked, the absence of a mark would possibly indicate USA made due to import/export laws in Euro/Slav countries. The bottom is a John Russell Green River Knife most likely made before 1900( This is possibly the type knife that the term "Up to the Green River" was coined for.). The knife on top of top knife blade on last photo was just in case any Cowboys wanted some Sushi. Please excuse the poor photo's, I was trying a point and shoot I picked up for a couple of bucks today. Should anyone have any spare XD cards they don't need PM me and we might work something out. moss
PS: I neglected to say these could have been hunters before the advent of what we now call the hunting knife. They also played an important part in the hunting camp.

I got the Western L39 in the 50s for Boy Scouts with S&H green stamps. The Buck 107 I still take with me when I go fishing.

Jerry and I both got the same L39 the same time and way as you. Wonder if it was a model made just for S&H Green stamps??

TJ I don't know if they were but I've seen a lot of them on ebay and some guys on Knifeforums got them the same way.

I have one and will never use her. She is ready to work but she looks to good for me to user her. She is a Queen Fixed 60 Genuine Red Stag 1 of 50 2005 420 HC 10 5/8 ". I think she is purdy and lonely. So I fix that and got her smaller sister Queen Fixed 50 Red Stag 2009 4 ¼” 8".... Just one more

Marbles, circa 2003, Gladstone made (per box - no country of origin on the tang). In my hand you can see the business end of the knife at work helping a hunting buddy skin out a deer a couple of years ago.

You boys are working too hard to skin that deer.

If ya want to undress one, hang it head up, "ring" and slit the hide on all the legs, slit the hide from the neck to the butt hole, ( should have already done that when ya gutted it). Cut all the way around the neck and pull the back of the neck hide loose far enough you can take a rock about the size of your fist and wrap the hide around the rock. Tie a rope under the rock. Tie ti where the rock is captured by the hide. Hook you pickup or four wheeler or whatever you got handy to the other end of the rope and pull the hide off the deer. Takes about 5 minutes after you get it figured out.

Here's one I picked up yesterday as partial payment for a pinstriping job.It looks like the old Marbles Woodcraft style blade;has an etched signature of Webster Marbles on the blade and what looks like white phenolic handle with the Marbles logo,a clock,and the slogan,"For Every Hour in the Open" etched into the handle.Has a stamped logo on the sheath and the box has a bunch of numbers on the end.
Says,"72174020 Fieldcraft (tm) Signature Series I" and a written in # 34 in one spot;another says MA-F-4020 and a hand written tag says 2865.
There was an additional sticker that said Marbles Signature 34484 and a crossed out price of $250.00. It is a nice knife but I don't think it is a $250 knife.

Western F66, Christmas gift from my parents in 1966. I helped my Dad pick it out at Tarrytown Mall in Rocky Mount NC - first mall in eastern North Carolina. My brother also got a Western fixed blade that Christmas, but all I remember about his was that it was smaller and either leather handled or stag handled. I sure thought that black/white alternating handle looked cool.

Thanks guys; finally used it this morning (it has been packed away for years), saw this little guy (90 lbs.) at 0621, walking across a woods path, dropped him with a .308 WIN at 120 yards. The knife was sharp as a razor, amazingly sharp - didn't know if I would like the upturned blade (usually prefer a drop-point) but it handled great - maybe I just wanted it too! The grip never got slick, even when bloody, I think Western made a very functional hunters knife with this model.

Backstraps tonite,one of my boys shot a spikehorn saturday 8"spikes 93lbs w/ a 30-06 one shot drop,strap were on the fire by noon what a day he says we cost him 4lbs in weight

here is a big old american made fixed blade that i picked up a little while back the knife is 15 3/4 with a 10 1/4 blade and 5 1/2 handel on the front is a stamp of daniel boon 1734-1820 and on the back says carvel hall stainless usa can anybody give me any in fo on this knife thanks everybody
