Looking to find out age of this Clauss knife or any other info on it. Rescued from the bottom of a cheap rusty toolbox with Clauss shears headed to the dump. It was a mess and filthy after sitting for over 20 years plus in its rusty tomb marked for death.

I am a huge Challenge Cutlery Co collector. I however have just purchased my first Clauss. It won't be in until next week, but if anyone is interested in trading away any I own a knife shop and would trade about anything to Clauss and Challenge.

Probably too late for the OP to see this (can’t believe no one responded to this hanging curveball). The knife is a 6229-1/2 pattern made for Clauss by Case. Looks like probably a XX era knife which places it between 1945-1964. Just a guess. Collectors call the pattern a “Tadpole”, smallest knife Case made, unfortunately has been discontinued.

I picked up this serpentine stockman a while back. Got it for cheap. It was filthy. Scrubbed it with some wd40 and steel wool. A previous owner tried to make it their own. That's OK, I want to replace the covers anyway.
What a strong knife this is. Very glad to have it.
I have no idea who made it. 3 3/8" closed. Half stops X 3. I wonder if the interesting clip, which is slightly tipped,
and the stamped number on the pile side (76) well tell an experienced knifer who made this thing.
Looking for answers. Thank you.

I posted this in the Old Cattle Knives thread and then realized I should have put it here. It's a Clauss #21 serpentine cattle knife, 3 and 7/8" overall length closed with bone handle material and the Clauss shield that I picked up yesterday. I had never seen a Clauss knife before this one. The bone and jigging on it are really nice. I understand that there were several companies that made these for Clauss. Is the bone and jigging any indicator to the manufacturer? Or maybe the punch blade?

Great find. I run across a Clauss a couple years ago. It was an old pruner in really bad shape, and the only one I have ever seen. I passed on it though. Thanks for sharing yours!

Thanks to all for the info. If this one was indeed made by Challenge, according my Goins they were in business from 1867-1928. Wow, this knife would be a lot older than I thought.
