All About Pocket Knives

Greetings, new to this forum, found it while searching for info on ivory handle folding knives, imagine that.
I have this pocket knife with ivory handles. Knife is 3 1/4" long and in fairly good condition, made in Sheffield, snaps work very good, long blade is slightly loose. Knife is intact, ivory has a nicely aged patina and has shrunken a bit.
I collect vintage fly reels and am used to seeing ivory handles on some fly reels, mostly from the very early part of the last century and mostly made in England.
I would appreciate any idea of age and value of this knife, don't think it's worth too much but it would be nice to know. Also, where were most ivory handled knives made?

Actually, I think if the ivory ban is enacted this entire thread should be deleted.

The notch is so you can grasp the nickle silver knob to open the blade.

Definitely before 1900 sometime and made in England.

I really enjoyed browsing this thread again.

This Brookes and Crookes whittler with rope cut scales dates to circa 1880s.

Thanks very much for the kind comments. This penknife dates to the late 1800s. I think W. H. Thompson was a retailer in Holborn, London.

It's a great little knife and I know it has a good home.

BETTER BEWARE...legislation is in the works to BAN ALL IVORY...even making you an outlaw and a criminal if you happen own ANY (including pre-ban) elephant ivory even if it was inherited or harvested when it was still legal. Now, please don't misunderstand me here, I'm totally against the slaughter of elephants for their ivory tusks...but to ban ALL ivory, even existing ivory that was legally harvested years ago and to make the owners thereof subject to criminal prosecution just seems ludricrous to me. I happen to love ivory, but I also do not want to see elephants and other ivory producing species being slaughtered to the point of extinction just so that we may have ivory handled knives or pistol grips or elaborate Japanese carvings (as intricate, artistic and cool as they may be). I'd really be interested to hear some other opinions and insights on this sensitive and volitile subject.

Here are a few of my favorite elephant ivory handled knives and also a couple with mammoth ivory/mammoth bark.
