Nice one MB, When I first saw it I could hear and feel the walk and talk. I'bet it has a fine half stop I think NYKC are one of the best knives with the half stop.

Yes it does. Very strong snap nice half stops, just a fine old knife from one of the best makers in the country at the time

Just picked this one up. I have seen some with Hammer Brand's stamp on the back but this one does not have it.

New York Knife Co. started using Hammer Brand trademark around 1882. I do not know if all of thier knives after that carried the hammer marking. Some people date a knife without the hammer to before 1882. That said here is your knife with the hammer stamp on the mark side and New York Knife Co. on the pile side.

just picked up this easy opener from Sweetwater knives, for me this was a rare find

NYK has always been one of my favorite makers and here is one I have owned for a little bit.

nice one! looks like its in great shape. one of the better collectable brands, built very well

From ten feet this looked like a Camillus.
In hand it looked like a NYK.
Opened it is a Wallkill River Works.

Walkill River works knives were New York Knife Co.s second brand, made 1928-1931 according to Levine. That would put their production right at the end of NYK's lifetime, probably made to compete with all the cheaper knives that were being manufactured during the Depression. I own a single example, (it's shown earlier in this thread) and it's really hard to tell that it's a second line, a very heavy and well made knife, maybe without quite the fine finish of a regular NYK product.

I agree about the finish, the bone is not as polished and the rat tail in the bolster has a poor original finish.
Still a keeper.

It is a hobby tool. Paid fifty cents at a flea market. It is a well built device with double articulation at each joint. I suspect it was built before the sixtys due to one of the aligator clips being absent

I haven't posted in this thread since the first page! Time to wake the thread up with a gem I stumbled on when my wallet was thick (no longer true)!
Owned by a central New York Physician, whose grandfather worked at New York Knife Co, it was purchased from him in the 1970s. I just bought it from the purchaser - and it more than lives up to what I hoped I was looking at.
The bone is an older NYK variety of jigging - I have a couple that are identical except for varying degrees of pocket wear. Never carried, used or sharpened, and a few specks away from mint! And. . . . .taadaaaah . . .it is a Harness Jack!!!

Charlie, that is one unbelievable NYK Harness Jack! A real find right there.
This is as close as I can come to an incredible NYK HJ.
I got the Jack part, almost new and very well made.

Nice Jack, Perry! NYK did good knives!
