All About Pocket Knives

I've got over twenty Terriers and not all have a Terrier head logo and not all have a pattern number.

The lack of either does not bother me a bit.

But, I do like that dog head to be on there.

Joe, your Terrier Jack Knife is sweet!

Here are pictures of my one and only (so far ) Terrier which I have because it is a Cattle knife - I wasn't seeking a Terrier specifically. However, it is very well made and now I pay more attention looking for the brand. It does not have the dog stamp or a pattern number.

That is a nice old Terrier and its lack of the dog's head logo or a pattern number do not bother me one bit.

That's Robeson's 1905 patented punch blade. The bone is right and the shield is one that they used.

I'd be pleased to own that knife. If you ever think about selling or trading , I'd be interested. I have nice Robeson replacements for that one that you might like better.

Here is an Ebay auction for a Terrier knife that I've never seen before.

It is a large 4", at least, "Carpenter's Knife" as stamped into the green onyx celluloid handles.

Unfortunately, it has seen a great deal of use and it looks as though the celluloid is about to self-destruct.

I have seen this pattern before because I have an almost mint example that is stamped "ROBESON" instead of "TERRIER".

I guess this gives me a good idea of the age of my knife since Terriers were only made from 1910 to 1916.

As the pattern number on the Robeson is 832232, the number on the Terrier should be 232832.

Here is mine. 4 1/2" English Jack pattern. Blades are both stamped Terrier/Cutlery/Rochester, N.Y. and the master has the dog head on the reverse side. The second blade has the pattern number 151622 on the reverse side.

That's a handful of Terrier cutlery right there.

The 151 and 119 were Robeson's big English jacks.

I've never seen either as a Terrier.

Nice knife.

Robeson made that pattern with longer bolsters that were about 1/3 of the knife's length.

I've always called it a "Barlow".

This one is stamped "ROBESON", but I'm still looking for a Terrier with the longer bolsters.

I just realized I had two of the little "Barlows".

As old and used as mine are they still have responsive blades and springs and are very solid knives.

All the ones I've seen, regardless of bolster length, that have a number, are 722236 patterns.

The Terriers, of course, have the numbers reversed and are 236722 patterns.

There is a long, very slim, pearl handled Robeson pen on Ebay right now with two blades and I've seen the pattern as a whittler in both pearl and bone.

Just picked up this Terrier in a batch of some Robeson's that I will be selling soon. I really like these lockbacks and also English jacks so this one fits in perfectly with the others I have.
