Here is a Schrade Dive knife. I do not do any diving so the only reason i bought this is because it's a Schrade. I think it is fairly rare but doubt there is much collector interest as it is a 'stand alone' knife, not part of a series.
Anyone else have one of these ?

Sure some good looking jigged bone, and those blades look full. Can't beat the old ones for great style.

867 open stock, early 1950s, also available as 866 in jigged bone, this would be marine pearl, I think. Stained but otherwise in tiptop condition; I like this little (3 1/16") fellow quite a bit.

Nice one Cal and rather rare i think as i do not recall seeing an old Schrade stock knife of this size. There is a 2 blade Jack on this frame as well and this one seems more common.

Here are a few variations of that knife Cal posted. The smooth black one seems to be the more common one Roland you referred to. The rough black peachseed is indeed uncommon and was a gift knife from Tongue River Cal himself.

Thanks Hal. The black handle Pen knife is a 766 i think. There is also a serpentine 2 blade Jack with blades at the big end, a 236 i believe. Is this the same frame ?

Yes same frame as the 766, which are 3 1/16" closed. The three blader is stamped with an 866. Your 766 is correct, the 236 is a larger knife, like an 837 or 836, which are 3 9/16" frames.

Message to Hal & Calvin:
i think you two could get together and create a Schrade book that showed every knife frame and then all the patterns it was used for from Schrade Cut Co to 2004, with a picture or catalogue image of each.
What a great collector reference that would be !
You fellows have the combined Schrade knowledge to do it.

That would be quite an undertaking, definitely not in my wheelhouse. I had my times wishing there was such a reference book, but through the years it's been fun looking them up on the various sites available when they showed up on eBay, I hoped to win the knife and see it in person.

I am flattered by Roland's suggestion, but the scope of such is beyond my ken and energy. After all I am at least as old as Roland! Part of the fun is the research, as it seems necessary at the time. We are all greatly indebted to Larry Vickery, with his invaluable website
http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/
and the work of Dale Vincent (Orvet) right here (Look up top at the headers: "Research.") on AAPK. All of the threads here are useful, and, dare I say it, those on Bladeforums, which has an extensive Schrade subforum. And let us not forget another extremely important source for critical exact information, Michael Little (Codger). Well, how about Eric Albers? And the Chases? And several others? We do have a lovely little community here, do we not?

Calvin you quite right that there are many who have dedicated a great deal of time towards sorting out all that is "Schrade". Much of it is on-line but there is also a great deal of factual knowledge stored in peoples' 'noggins' (heads) and this will be lost forever if not documented and sooner rather than later. Furthermore what is on line is not organized as to which patterns relate to which frames, where as the History part is well organized.
However as Hal says: huge undertaking, much time & energy needed. If funds were available to pay the 'Schradeologist', then it might get done as a retirement project that provides an income.

Here are four vintage older Schrades. The top three (3) are Cut Co and the bottom one is a Schrade Walden. From the top EE single spring two blade spear, Lobster, split spring whittler and a 2 blade congress. All are three to three 1/4 inches in length.
Thanks for looking, Lloyd

Thanks gentlemen for your nice remarks! These vintage Schrade folders really have nicely executed jigged bone handles and the F&F as well as the walk and talk is just so consistently nice. I think there are 3 different jigging patterns on these four diffent folders. I am really fond of the top example but the lower three peach seed examples are hard not to like also. I got the top one for a really nice price and I don't think it was ever used. Doesn't look like the blades were ever sharpened. I am constantly looking and hunting for nice examples which I am sure all you fellows can relate to. Thanks again for your input, Lloyd

I know this Cut Co has a few issues..like a short main blade, but I was sure happy to get it. Found it on the Bay for $54. Now the cleaning begins.

Very nice Washington Jack. It is the knife that became the now famous Schrade-Walden 2OT.
