All About Pocket Knives

That's cool Dogg l hope you find out who's it was, that would be icing on the cake. I have no idea how many l've laid down while working on something and walked off and left but it's several, I've also found a couple that someone lost. I found a couple at the flea market today, ole Case has seen better days, but is snappy and sharp, the Ranger never sharpened, they be good toters as if I needed another. I kinda like yeller.

Big H I like yeller as well Those ranger stockmans have good slicing blades, and take an edge with practically no effort.

bighomer, that's what I call a successful run to the dump! I believe you said you had to make that run and then stop a flea market.
Yeller knives always remind me of my younger days, lots of the old cowmen used to carry yellow handled knives during marking and branding, etc..

The timeline for these companies is:
1941 Albert Baer buys Ulster Knife Co & name becomes "Ulster Knife" (no "Co.")
1942 Imperial & Ulster join under Albert Baer and the name "Imperial Knife Co" i.e. legally Ulster was a division of Imperial Knife Co.
1946 Albert Baer buys Schrade Cut Co and renames it "Schrade Walden" and it becomes a division of Imperial Knife.
I got this info from "Schrades-R-Us" sticky at Schrade subforum at BF.
Because the "Hammer Brand" shown way above this post has plastic handles with Schrade jigging, this likely is an Imperial knife from soon after 1946 which would have been towards the end of Imperial's "Hammer Brand" production.

Bought this little skinner yesterday at a live auction. It is marked GEK, by George Koutsoppolos, Lagrange, Ohio, (deceased). Its is 6 1/2" OA with a 3" blade, decorated crown stag handle, brass/leather spacers, D2 steel. I got this for, wait for it............$10.00 (TEN), deal of the month!!!

Seneca Cutlery Co. Utica N.Y. -1932 a trademark used by Udica Cutlery for that year only according to Goins
Strong snappy open and close with no side play
Crack free handles not bad for 86 yrs old

It’s a salesman sample I’m guessing from the writing on main blade sorry I cannot get a better picture of it

After you have used it to cut a number of things post back and let us know how well it works, or doesn't.

gino, Just curious as to what plans you might have for that Seneca. If you want to keep it as a collectible you probably won't do more than a light cleaning. What I was thinking, if you can get off some of the rust and corrosion, is that it might look very good if you forced a patina on the blades. Am thinking that would go very well with the black scales.

Q I was going to do a light cleaning and oil it and probably just throw it with the rest of my knives

It’s a series of numbers and it’s typical of a salesman’s sample. Salesman would take their knives to stores, hardwares, etc and show what they had and the individual numbers written on the blade would correspond to the type of knife they are pretty hard to find, sometimes they even have the salesman‘s name on it. I have seen a bunch but it’s the first I’ve owned

There are some great lookin' finds here. Here is one I picked up at a fleamarket over the weekend for a few bucks. It is a Henry Sears & Son 3" jack. What would this pattern actually be called, a swell center jack, a teardrop jack, or something else?

I believe that's generally known as a "coke bottle" or coffin jack. Usually the larger versions also go by the name "folding hunter", though I'm not sure if that name is used for the smaller variants.

Thanks for your info. It's a neat little jack by any name. Since I retired, besides knives, one of my favorite past times is cold war military history. Your name Tsar Bomba certainly is a "blast from the past", in fact the biggest man made blast ever!

No sir, it's a mini (3137) with CV blade and stains.

Thanks for the detail and angle, Scott. I vastly misjudged that Schrade belt sheath's size (thought it might be for an LB7) and I was actually hoping for it to be a CV instead of stainless blade. If only it were a big fella...

Here’s a couple I picked up. The Hibbard Spencer Bartlett toothpick a friend of mine brought over 3 Knives he picked up at a auction and gave them to me and it was one of the three. The Ulster Boy Scout knife I picked up in a lot of knives mostly for repair.
