Here are a couple that I just listed for sale in my store. Both are designed by Bob Lum and Haruo Suetake and made by the consortium of knife makers called Seki Cut. Both were made for the “Encounter”. D-2 tool steel blades with anodized aluminum handles. Beautiful blades on both and both blades are hair shaving sharp. Seems like the sharpest knives I’ve ever encountered were all made in Japan. The Japanese work meticulously to sharpen their blades.

I sure like those, Mark, in-fact, I was just browsing them in your store, and I'm almost certain I have a copy of the black handled one buried in my pile somewhere, when I come across it again I'll post it here so you can verify if I'm correct. Really nice knives, bud.

The blade is what gets my attention Mark! It is both elegant and menacing looking at the same time ... Beauties!!

The false edge is what makes this blade look “elegant and menacing”, as you said. I don’t know why more knife makers don’t use that, I always like it on a blade.
Thanks Tony.

Here is another A.G. Russell small bullet lockback. This one has black lip pearl scales. There are a lot of these with various scales that were made. Still trying to round out my collection of them. I keep hunting for one of every Japanese made knife that A.G. Russell made and it’s a daunting task, so many made over the years.

Thanks Tony. I wish the pearl was a little more dramatic in appearance, more dark on the edges and more fire of multi-colors that you see in some really rich looking black lip MOP. But it will do for now until I spot that next one.

Picked up a couple more knives made in Japan. First is a G. Sakai linerlock with black lip pearl. Simply gorgeous. The seller said it was from the 70’s but I know better. G Sakai wasn’t a brand that was around until 1982. Plus it has VG-10 steel which most Japanese made knives didn’t start using until the late 90’s early 2000’s. Before that it was mostly AUS-6 or AUS-8. Very smooth opening and closing, nice little knife.
The second one is a knife made in Japan, possibly by Moki or G. Sakai for A.G. Russell. I bought the sister to this knife from Roland, aka Kootneyjoe, back about 5 years ago. It has mother of pearl and this one has black lip pearl. Design is by Robert Loveless, believe it’s his “city knife”. Probably the closest thing I will have to an actual Loveless knife. Flawless design with tight run up and perfect centering.

Wish I could remember where I’ve seen the blade on this G. Sakai, because it seems very familiar to some other knives I have, but can’t put my finger on it yet. That might narrow down when this was made. If you happen to recognize this blade, please let me know. It’s going to be munching away at my brain until I remember. If I wanted a nice little knife to carry the G Sakai would be my pick but for just style and elegance this Loveless design is over the top.

Mark, we seem to be getting new Seki Knives in the same time zone. One of my grail knives came in the mail today:
80s Junglee Hattori Fighter Seki Japan ... MVS-8 Stainless ... 13.25" OAL ... 7.75 Blade ... Checkered Rubber Kraton Grip & Rosewood
I have the Taiwan model also, which is great knife, but I like this one much better. It is different in feel and weight (the Seki being heavier which I like), and the Taiwan does not have the silver dot in the rosewood. If anyone knows, is the silver a pin or an inlay? Lastly, I would have to dig out the Taiwan sheath to see, but I do not remember it having a tongue in the center as this one does.

Nice Tony. That is probably a pin. That doesn’t look to be a full tang construction so it would need a pin to hold that wood. The rubber grip probably covers a rat tail. I bet it feels front heavy in hand and not as balanced as a lot of Hattori full tang knives.
You take great photos.

Thanks Mark! It is a little front heavy, just past balancing ... right where I like a blade this size to be. But no where near as front heavy as a chopper would be. Of course, this one is for fighting, but will not be used.

I figured it out Tony. SOG, which were made by G. Sakai used this same blade configuration. Also some Kershaws that were made by G. Sakai also used this. These are examples from my own collection. As you can see this knife looks right at home with these SOG and Kershaw knives. I figured it out when I went to bed last night. I love this blade, it’s ideal for slicing or skinning.

That’s a SOG Vulcan. I can’t remember the name of the Kershaw anymore. The small SOG is called a Bluto.

Before you posted this, Mark, my thinking was leaning toward the Blackjack Mamba blade configuration, not the dagger blade that mine displays, but the original Mamba design. I wasn't sure originally which blade you were puzzled about so I thought perhaps it was the AGR's blade, which to me has a definite Al Mar "Gunstock" influence, both folder and fixed.
Glad you figured it out, things like that can make one crazy!
Two more beautiful knives to add to your collections in any event.

I noticed the description of AL Mar knives in the store still says they are made in Japan. That should be updated. The examples I've seen of the newer China knives are quite different.
