All About Pocket Knives

You are right, there is a bunch of glass cutter or glass breaker knives on Ebay right now. But those are something totally different, that is they are used to free yourself if you were to be trapped in your car after an accident. Some of them have a seat belt cutter and a spike on the bottom of the handle to break window glass and escape. That is a totally different thing from cutting glass sheets to make or repair household windows.

I have a very vague memory of seeing a picture of one on AAPK several years ago. I sorta recall getting the bug for one at the time but being unable to locate one and then forgetting what I was looking for. Can't recall exactly what it looked like so don't know if it looked like yours or not. Just remember it had a glass cutter.

I recently purchased a Schrade Walden, Everlastingly Sharp, Tungsten Carbide 148 Open Stock, fixed blade knife from the 'bay'. The knife looked very good, but the jigged Delrin handle had what appeared to be a large corroded patch.
The knife looked too good to let end up in a scrap heap, so i sent it to the Master, who saved this knife in the most remarkable way, slipping a set of very attractive Rams Horn covers onto it. The result left me speechless, and it is now up there with the best of them. Thank you Herman.

Those handles do look good! 2 questions, can you tell us who the "master" is that did this job and what do you suppose happened to the original Delrin handles, to cause them to deteriorate?

Wow, that looks great. Rams horn really works on that knife. I was wondering too about how the original deteriorating like it did. A chemical reaction with something that got onto the handle?

I have never seen anything like that with Delrin plastic. Meanwhile.... viva la Herman! That particular blade variation is pretty rare. Knice!

The Master is Herman Williams of North Carolina.

Herman thinks the damage was by an unknown acid. It only effected the small area near the finger guard. The tang had a small amount of corrosion, and the red FG spacer disintegrated when he touched it. This is very strange, as i have never experienced anything that devours Delrin.
These Tungsten Carbide 148's were only around for 7 years from 65', and the main problem with them was that the owners didn't know how to sharpen the knife, and usually ground off the TC. Pity, as they are a great knife.

I can not find any markings.....no clue what the wood is.
Not sure if the pic shows it but the pins on one side have a pin in the middle.....never seen that before.

Puma folder, SGB FLASH 3532 CLIP ON BACK SIDE. Found at A ANTIQUE MALL. NOTE=NOT MY IMAGE, i CAN TAKE SOME LATER.

I think the Puma is a China made knife. Nothing wrong with China made knives, some are top notch. I have been acquiring China made knives since 2007 and find the best ones are those with the manufacturer's markings rather than the markings of a USA or German brand. The manufacturer branded knives also sell at prices lower than those with the names of other brands.
I am not knocking your new Puma. For knives being made currently i would take a China made Puma over a German made Puma (if they still actually manufacture knives).

It's a grafting blade for fruit trees and vines. ___Dave
