OC, Congratulations on owning a great classic, even tho its a newer version. The High Power is my all time favorite semi-auto. [Much coveted but hard to come by in Vietnam during the festivities.] One of the worst mistakes I ever made was to sell a beautifully blued Belgian made Browning High Power.

Concerning your Springfield edition, I've encountered very favorable reviews. Kindly update us from time to time on your experiences with the gun. I like your holster style very much.

That is a fantastic firearm. Great to hear that it shoots as good as it looks!

Thanks for the comments on the SA35. Although Springfield Armory made some changes to the gun, it is still the definitive High Power. I have owned a S & W Model 59 back in the 1970s, Ruger P85, P89, P94, and a Beretta 96 more recently and all of those are double action first shot with a decock lever. The plastic 9mm I traded in had a partially cocked hammer and a blade safety trigger. I could never really shoot a group with any of those. But the SA35 with the single action design is John Browning's 9mm version of the 1911. Same system, carried cocked and locked. Much easier to shoot some decent groups with.

Made a short range trip today. 1st up was this 112 year old Smith & Wesson M&P 38 special. Shoots better than some new guns And then my personal favorite handgun, early 70’s Smith & Wesson Model 66 (no dash)

I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of either, nice shooting.

Boji, I very much like the grips on both of your guns; they look very hand filling.

Yes they are, I have long fingers and small grips don’t work for me. The ones on the M&P are from one of the Thailand sellers on eBay. The ones on the model 66 are Herretts Shooting Star.

Thanks! They really dress up the old gal. Interesting, after I bought it at a local auction I figured out it was made the year my mother was born, 1911. It’s a keeper.

Ken, I seem to remember a rifle similar to that one back in July of 1964. I was at a summer resort area known as Parris Island. I believe the one I had was an H&R. It had a lug on the side of the receiver where an armorer could install a selector switch.
I'm assuming the Bassett Machine piece is a scope mount without the rings?
We fired those rifles to qualify at 200, 300 and 500 yards. We didn't think "metric" back then other than the caliber 7.62 mm. Back then several of us old redneck boys knew it was just a 308.

These were imported from China until Clinton stopped gun imports from there. Yes, the Bassett scope mount is supposed to be the cats meow.

I haven't shot it yet, but I imagine it'll be pretty mild, as it weighs 10.7lbs loaded and probably 12lbs with a scope.

..... .....I sold it a long time ago... didn't make anything like that but I did shoot it a bunch of times with quite a few rounds through it. I shot it a lot at 200 to 400 yards, it was a pretty good rifle.

I have put 400 rds thru the SA35 now without cleaning and there has been not even a hiccup. This includes 100 rds of factory FMJ, 100rds of factory JHP, and 200 rds of my own 115gr handload. Totally reliable and good to carry.

What kind of recoil impulse are you expecting from that? Looks like its ported which should help. Kinda like a 45ACP? Nice looking pistola.

Looks like a nice competition race gun, gard.

Took these two to the club a few weeks ago to refamiliarize with the triggers and see how well the scope/barrel are aligned with the hunting ammo in prep for the PA season after Thanksgiving. The lever gun is a Savage 99F in 308W, the bolt gun is a Kimber Custom in 260Rem. I'll hunt the Savage, the bolt gun is a loaner to my son Pete. Target at 50 yards. Will confirm at 100 later on. They were both good to go.

As you know my go to is a 99 in a 300 Savage ,but man these rounds are hard to find in these parts,they use to get them in any store in northern Maine as popular as the o'l Turdy -turdy
P.S. too wet out to try the boys new 10mm this weekend
