Found this little paring knife by DIXON of Germany today....Absolute gem. 5 3/4" OAL

Ulster Knife Co. and friends. All are pre 1941 Ulster Knife Co. The whittler is marked A.J.Harwi Hwdr. from Atchison KS, and the lobster is stamped Ellenville Knife Co. The agate pen with tip bolsters is an Advertizing for Holyoke Belt Co. The 4 blade pearl is stunning. I got an excellent package deal on the pile. ____Dave

Gino, those 23s are a great canvas for modifications. Glenn has done two for me (one for me, one for Tommy) and one for his B-I-L to commemorate his retirement from the Marine Corps. All top notch.

Even without the personal adornments, the bone just adds that "something". Or how about exterior Ram's horn?

While not a knife find, I did find something the other day I had been looking for. I have one of the Ulster Old Timer camper/scout knives that were sold thru a Prince Albert tobacco can offer. I finally found a can and it still has the original coupon in it (no tobacco though). I was in a local antique store the other day, you guys know the kind. When you walk in the front door the first thing you must do is look up and see that there are no piles that will collapse and trap you. Once your satisfied of that, then you follow an 18 inch wide trail that snakes around the store. When you get to the back of the building, as far from the front door as possible, you think to yourself "man I hope this building doesn't catch fire while I am back here". Anyway as is the best policy in such a place, I asked the proprietor if he had any Prince Albert cans, and he walked me right to the exact spot where they were and he had 3 of them. Only 1 had the original coupon. Kind of adds to having the knife when you have something so closely connected to it.

That nice, OC! Good find with the coupon. I was fortunate to purchase a large lot of PA stuff last year or so. There were a couple of those tins in there, specifically one with the coupon and tobacco still in it. Since I don't collect PA stuff primarily, I sent the bulk of it to a member here that gave the stuff to his dad for his collection.

Had a few minutes to waste this morning so I stopped in at an antique shop that has way too high prices on their knives in display cases but they had this out on a shelf marked at $24. Perfect bone scales and the tarnished blades are full. The master spear appears to have been sharpened once. On the second picture I added, I removed a little of the tarnish with a #2 pencil and a little Wenol. ___Dave

When I picked this camper knife up at the gunshow to look at it, and saw the tiny wheel on the end of the blade, I had to go"What the......" I have a lot of camper knives, but not one like this. In place of the usual can opener, this one has the regular 3 blades plus a GLASS CUTTER?? It's a 3 3/8" Imperial. Now it's in MY pocket.

Well that's pretty neat! All kinds of things showing up that are new to me. I know about glass cutters and the little notches to snap the glass but never on a pocket knife!

I picked up this little beauty at an antique shop. It was made by Daniel Peter Peres, a very old Solingen, Germany maker originating before 1800 by some accounts. This is what we would call a "blade trader" today. One thing that is always a big deal with things like this is having all the pieces. The leather case (it is a very thin and soft leather, possibly pigskin or calf skin) has compartments for the handle and 5 implements, which are all there. The folding knife blade is permanently mounted to the handle. The 5 implements are: small straight screw driver, wood saw with very sharp and aggressive teeth, a wood chisel .465" wide, an awl or ice pick, and a double sided file with both single and double cut faces. The file also has the tip ground to a large straight screwdriver tip. From what I can find on this, the "Ale Keg" tang stamping was used on USA imports by Peres starting in 1934. The tang stamp next to the ale keg is D.R.G.M. which loosely translates to "Deutsches Reich Registered Design". The dealer made the comment that he didn't know why it did not have a belt loop on the back, there is no indication that there ever was one, no stitching holes. This set would have been designed to carry in your backpack, or as the Europeans would call it "knapsack", so a belt loop was not included. Anyway, I think it is a neat and unusual knife set to add to my collection.

I wondered the same thing about that glass cutter blade when I first saw it. This is a cheap Imperial with the metal "shell" handles, so it would be doubtful that anyone would spend the time and expense to alter this for the price range in which it would sell. There is no evidence that it has been apart, looking at the tabs on the end of the shell handles. Possible, but I would have to say unlikely. I wonder if others have ever seen glass cutter blades on pocket knives? I showed this to a dealer I know who has been buying, selling, and trading knives for 40 years, and he told me he had never seen a pocket knife with a glass cutter. It was that tiny wheel on the end of the blade that caught my eye as "different".

I see them all the time on ebay, especially on the "sportsman" knives, I think.
