All About Pocket Knives

Last Saturday (Feb, 01 2020) my Wife and I drove up Ca. 101 along the Pacific coast. The weather was beautiful with 80 degree temp. at the Pacific.
Just South of the University of California, Santa Barbara there is a very nice restaurant (Beachside Bar-Cafe) located in Goleta Beach Park. Upon arriving at the car parking lot we noticed approximately 30-35 gorgeous Chevrolet Corvettes, all makes and models, from old classics to the newest 2020 Mid-Engine models. Obviously a Corvette Club gathering within the restaurant's Banquet room.
The 2020 C8 model is capable of a speed of 194 MPH

, with a starting price of under $60,000. and can easily top $100.000. with accessories. I have seen the new Mid-engine models on T. V. and within magazines, but its true beauty cannot be witnessed unless you view it in person.
Unfortunately, my knife allowance will not give me access to this beautiful car, and my Wife reminded me that I am way past my "Midlife Crisis"

Also, driving a Toyota Camry and Honda Ridgeline Pick-up, would not give us qualification to dine with the above mentioned club members.

As we drove South to "Rincon Point" also known as the "Queen of the Coast", Rincon is one of the most famous surf spots in California, known around the world for its well-formed waves and long rides. It's was our first visit to "Rincon"
Rincon Point is home to the Rincon Classic surf championship scheduled for January each year. The championship draws local surf greats and spectators to the beach every year. Though scheduled for January, the event is often delayed until surf conditions merit a contest. The Rincon Classic Competition is open to area residents only. However, because of the quality of the wave, people travel from all over the world to surf there.
Rincon is referenced in The Beach Boys classic song from 1962, Surfin' Safari:

As we took the path to Rincon Beach from the above scenic view we observed children as young as 8 year old boys and girls surfing

on waves that appeared to be approximately 6-8 feet high in the distance.
Living in Indiana when I was 8 years old, I think I even approached our garden hose with caution.

We walked perhaps 1/4 mile North on the beach to a somewhat secluded area and we discovered many beach rocks and shells to add to my Wife's collection.
We had a wonderful day.
And no, I have no intention of going 194 MPH, or buying a surf board.

The corvette is made in the next town over from me so we lots of them here. One of my former students had the “horrible” job of taking them for their test drive when they come off the line.

Too kool fellers! All your pics are giving me a bit of cabin fever, just what I need right now, on top of my overloaded brain and on coming flu. Oh well, least I don't have to suffer through summer time there, boy would my health issues no like that in the least!

Yes, the C8 is probably the steal of a deal in the whole high performance car world. Ferrari beater at 1/3 - 1/4 the price. But it's not really my kind of car, give me a good ole 69' camaro any day!

Quail hunt looked awesome OH! I would love to hunt/eat me some quail, and especially in that swamp you were at. Completely different landscape then i'm used to, another place added to my future visit destinations

The critters that live within these condos are actually snails, The official name is: "Wavy Turban" (Lithopoma undosum) It’s a very sturdy seashell. Shaped like a top, this shell is covered with thick, brown periostracum, and have a pearlescent reflection.
Growing up to 4 ½” plus in diameter, this slow moving marine snail’s habitat ranges from Point Conception, California, throughout the Channel Islands (located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California) to central Baja California in Mexico. Living in rocky areas from the low tide level to 70′ deep, this beauty is abundant in the warm coastal waters of Southern California.

Below is the description in detail, however...I do not eat snails

Anna and I did find a couple still alive within their habitat on day at the beach, but we returned them to the ocean.

Edible portions
Current market demand is for the foot.
The operculum should be removed.
The snail’s intestines are bitter in taste, and are sometimes eaten, sometimes removed.
Description of meat
Has an abalone-like texture and taste; foot of the snail is processed and sold to restaurants as an abalone-like product.
Culinary uses
Most recipes for abalone and sea snails can be adapted to the wavy turban snail
Wavy turban snails can be prepared many ways: grilled, sautéed, battered and fried, in pastas, in chowders and soups, and in stir fries.
Nutritional information
Turban snail, raw.
Toxicity report
There are no known contaminants
Seasonal availability
Available year-round on Ca. Pacific Coast.

I was a teenager before I overcame the fear of water and a late bloomer before swimming in the ocean.

We taught our kids to swim before they could walk, now they are real Aqua fish.
And yes...My "Love My Every Day Carry!" hat came from a special friend.

Is "Surfing" popular in Germany?

Posted a game camera picture in the ornithology thread of a Robin and a couple of other birds near a new "deer block". A buddy told me to get one of these blocks and set it in front of a camera. Well we did and it was interesting to see the progression of wariness the deer displayed before that took a lick or a bite out of the block. The block is a compressed conglomeration of salt, mineral, shelled corn and dry molasses, probably other ingredients too. It tastes very salty, seems like every critter traveling through the Rye grain food plot finally got used to it. Here are a few of the more interesting pictures from last week:

: Might even be a "coyote block".

: Can't tell who this was, only the hind legs at the bottom left of the picture.

Willie we hunted the hilly country along the upper Pee Dee River, easy hills covered in pines, broomsedge, and briars, but with swamps overgrown in rushes in the bottoms. Lots of birds find the cover advantageous protection from predators. OH

Ok, sounds like you had a lot of fun

. The way you describe the terrain, reminds me of one of the provincial parks an hour north of me. Bucket loads of big pines, firs, oak, and lots of boggy/swampy low areas. Many different species of birds, moose, elk, bear, wolves, ect. ect.

My brother sent me this picture today and I don't think anyone is going to open that door. The second picture is what that same side of the lodge looked like just a few months ago.
He says too that he thinks he could walk across the Kenai River on the ice now, but he's not going to prove it.
