Way to go TF!!!

Ken how in the world do you keep that truck from freezing up in those temps? Wow!

It’s 53° headed to 69° today and we’re under a tornado warning. I’d love a good snow.

Nice buck, TF!
Should make some fine table fare.

Was planning to hunt this A.M. but the weather had other plans.

I'd be curious to know if they do it any differently now than back in the late 60s. We were stationed with Dad up at Eilson AFB, near Fairbanks, Alaska (middle of the state). I remember the "hitching post" for the cars and trucks. Every vehicle had an electric heater around the engine block. The cord was fed through the grill and plunged into an outlet on the post whenever you parked.

When I worked for Amdahl, I went up to Winnipeg Canada to the University of Manitoba after they got their new Amdahl computer to pull a week of standby (in case anything went wrong) while they waited for their full time Field Engineer to get there. Out in the parking lot for the Data Center there was a post for every parking slot with an AC outlet attached to it. It puzzled me. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why they had all those AC outlets out in that parking lot (I'm sure MN Dave knows where this is going.), so I asked. The individual I asked said, "They're there so we can plug in the block heaters on our cars so they will start when we get ready to go home". ::uc:: Get me outta here! At that time in my life I had never even heard of a block heater on a car. I was glad I was there in September instead of the dead of winter.

I think block heaters were originally designed for Diesel engines as they are notoriously difficult to start in severe cold weather. I’m not sure exactly when they became available for gasoline engines but I remember seeing them available at the Buick dealership where I worked in the 70’s so I’m guessing they’ve been around for quite awhile. I’m not sure if they’re still an option for the new fuel injected, computer controlled vehicles that we have today (I’m guessing they’re no longer needed but don’t quote me on that).
I’ve never seen outlets in the parking lots here in lower Michigan but I’m reasonably sure they have them in the upper peninsula.

I can tell you for a fact that all them plugs are still here, and block heaters on every new, old, in-between vehicle up here in Canada. And if someone buys a car without it, they got rocks for brains! Heated seats are another nice feature to warm yer cold body, from that 15 second run to your car in -30 wind chill  ::disgust:: .
Wood stoves in the house are also a must, except when rockheaded politicians want to outlaw then ::disgust:: ::smack:: .
Have a great (warm) night all :D .

This is the Kenai River and in the 1st pic you can still see water and ice flowing.
In the 2nd pic you can see more ice gathering towards the middle.
In the 3rd pic from inside the lodge you can see snow and ice all the way to the
middle of the river.
In the 4th pic it's pretty much iced over, but I'm not sure it's thick enough to walk out on,
and I told my brother not to try it either!
He said this all happened in one day, because an ice jam up river broke loose. Also it did
some property damage as it came down river.

I haven't seen outlets around here in parking lots but most everybody has one where they park their cars overnight. The few times it got around 50 below, you had to have the car plugged in before it got cold because electric cords just snap off if you try to bend them to plug them in. Gas pump hoses do too. The engines today don't really need them as much as they did back 30 years ago. My old Honda starts on it's own at 30 below. Any colder than that, and it's dangerous to go anywhere you don't absolutely have to.____Dave

This is my great niece, Desta.

She works for Florida Fish & Game.

She is an avid hunter, learned from her father and is married to a hunter.

I'm not sure about this photo. it looks more like a magazine cover than a post-hunt photo. Composition and lighting just looks too professional.

She posted this on FaceBook without much explanation.

I shared it on Special Forces Brothers and several guys want to marry her.
