How did this work out?
It looks like it would make charging more difficult.

I never had a problem charging the Ruger Mark II I used to shoot, but I'm interested to hear how the charging ring works. Loading the Mark II's magazine, on the other hand...

hi Dan—- It has nothing to do with having a problem with charging a Ruger Mark XX… it’s just about ease of use and consumer preference

The ring is designed for ease of use… pulling the ring vs pinching/and pulling the serrated bolt end

Both work… just preference… like changing grips on a handgun, putting a dot sight on it, putting a thumb rest on it, or putting a compensator on the muzzle end… it’s all about user preference

The stock gun/design work just fine… and has for years… many folks just like to customize

I find the charging ring easier to use— simply put finger in the hole and pull (I had one on my Mark IIi 22/45 lite) and now I have this one on the Mark IV 22/45

Finally got to go to the range today to exercise these a bit. Had been waaaay too long and my shooting showed it. Only one that I did well with was the S&W Model 66 2 1/2 in. It has long been my favorite.
I’m just not warming up to Colt Python and I had thought I would really like it.
Did OK with the little Springfield 911 .380.
The Ruger Mark II decided to jam up when a friend was shooting it.

Dan, my favorite part of owning a Ruger Mark II was the joy of taking apart and cleaning it... and then reassembling it, so it was all back together again...

TOPDOG, Reassembling it ? Is that sarcasm? After 50+ years they finally came out with a version that doesn’t take a phd degree in engineering to reassemble it. Unfortunately, the price is absurd.

Boji I know the feeling , the 66-1 no matter shoots well in my hands all the time.

I like cleaning my revolvers but any semi-auto, nope.
About 8 or 9 years ago I gave a friend a very nice custom auto (knife). He cleans the semi-autos free gratis.
Great arrangement in my opinion.

Know nothing of the Ruger Mark's. How far are we stripping down and disassembling? Field/ bench strip for cleaning or full disassembly?
I can field strip most of my Sigs (slide and spring, barrel removal) in probably 10 seconds or less. Assembly, same time frame. The SIG P238 and 938 is a different story as they are mini versions of a 1911 minus the grip safety.
Pile of parts versus field strip are 2 radically different things as you know.

Bill Ruger invented the takedown of the original Marks and yes he has left this world. The new Mark IV I have has a push button dis assembly. Actually the reassembly of the older ones was simple if you knew how to do it, but nobody reads the directions.

Not sure my question has been answered. No, I know it hasn't! I read the link as well. Appreciate the responses though.
Either field strip/ clean or full disassemble? Only other choice is full disassemble to do what is a SIG field strip in 10 seconds. I mean removal of slide, barrel and spring ONLY. Shot well over10,000 rounds through an old P226 from the 80's. All original parts and no factory armory or gunsmiths visits. Never 1 misfite, jam, etc in all those rounds with simple field strip, clean and lube. Still drives tacks.
Do you have to disassemble entirely to aceess the commonly cleaned parts I mentioned on a Ruger Mark 3 or antecedent???

Well Jerry... how can I explain it... ... there is a "lever" in the "assembly" that comes out of the frame that swings down and has to be aligned perfectly to fit into a divot in the frame when being put back into the frame... and this is just about impossible to do under normal conditions on the 1st (or 99th) try. ... So, about 4 hours later you are trying to line up the lever/pin that keeps swiveling into the wrong position over and over again...and over and over again... and over and over again ... ...and over and over again... ...so, I isn't too smart... years ago, I took an I.Q. test and only got a lousy 122. so, I can see me not getting that MKII back together again in under about 8.75 hours... but even smart people can't seem to do it, unless maybe they is some kinda' mechanical genius. ...
Or maybe just read the instruction manual and you can reassemble it in about 5 minutes... or so "they" say...

A little change of topic, on the What else do you collect thread we are bemoaning the low prices on many of the things we collected over the years.
We should have bought more guns and not sold some we had.
Early 90’s SKS sold on Gun List for $89. Now they sell for $500+, nice Russian ones even more.
Remington Nylon 66, I used to sell them for $100, now the market on them is $400+.
Then there’s the original Colt Python, late hubby had a 6” one from the Colt Custom Shop. He sold in the late 90’s for $800. Now would be around $2500-3000.
If only we knew……….

For sure! Youth trap shooting has become very popular here so that is very desirable gun for them.

A friend went to a local gun auction a couple months ago,and a Winchester model 37 red letter,in 28 ga brought $7100.
