Scott, I'm impressed buddy and I know you're a blessing to all of those boys.

Okay everyone,
This picture is at the small airport in Soldotna, AK and is located about
10 minutes (with no ice/snow) from the lodge. In the background is
Mt Redoubt which is about 40 miles (straight line distance) west, across
the Cook Inlet to the Alaskan mainland . This photo was taken back in
October just before the first snowfall.

This one was taken a while back also. They are only getting around
5 hours of daylight, so I don't know what time of the day this was taken.
I think we have someone in Alaska that might respond.

This is at the entrance from the main road the morning after a good snowfall.

Hope you are enjoying the pictures from my brother's Alaskan Winter.

This was their drive to church Sunday morning after a night
of 3" of fresh snow on top of a layer of ice. I must be a heathen,
because I would have rolled over and caught the PODCAST later.

Those are some beautiful pics of Alaska and Canada. All that snow just amazes me. It sure is beautiful.

Here in south central Kentucky if we get 1/4” it can shut us down. 1/2” and we’re out of school for a couple of days. Slick mixed with hills, hollars, and curvy roads don’t mix!

Both! Lol

Seriously, the “town” I teach in has a blind curve right in the middle of town on the 1 road through town that leads to a bridge across the River bottom on the edge of “town” across the Green River. Hills and hollars with curves don’t mix well with school busses when it’s slick. I can’t imagine what we’d do if we got that Alaska snow that’s been shown!

That’s the town and the bridge.

Great snow pictures and comments! I'd have to agree with Wade concerning the 1/4" of snow, West Florida really comes to a halt even when we have flurries. Only had a few days when we had snow to stick on the ground in my 47 years of living this far north. Usually it is the freezing temperatures that cause the most problems, we just ain't prepared for snow or freezing weather.

bighomer, how on earth do y'all raise a garden? ::hmm::

My contribution tonight is a couple of shots of some sort of fungi. ::shrug:: Tried my best to identify what it is and when I found something that looked like it, the expert writing the article said it may be known by at least 3 different names, all Latin.
Toadstool or mushroom, either way it caught my eye this afternoon. Noticed it beside a two trail road as I was walking to my deer stand on the lease. As you can see it's almost 5 inches across. I see a lot of different ones in the woods but have always been told to leave 'em alone and eat the ones from the produce aisle at the Piggly Wiggly.
Anyone know what this is called?
Anyone know what this is called?
Rather than being called a toadstool we'll call this one Moosestool for nw.

About quit trying Phil, last time I planted some sweet corn they ate up 3 plantings. Few mater and pepper plants in flower pots/ raised beds is about it. That piggly wiggly or kroger store gets alot of our business. I also have some truck farmers for fresh stuff close by. ::handshake::

I went for a chilly walk at the pond today. Actually it was really nice. Such clean, cold, crisp air.
I really enjoyed it.
The pond is frozen over and the atmosphere looks cold. The temperature was above freezing so it wasn't too bad.

Joe does that ice get thick enough that you can safely walk on it during the winter ?

Yes it does, Phil. There was a couple skating on it just the other day.
We had a freezing rain recently so the surface is too rough for skating now.
Our temperatures will be above freezing for the next few days, except at night, so that may be a concern for skaters.
I don't go on the ice.
In January and February it will get several inches thick.

Where I came from, they would call that a lake. In my Southern Illinois eyes it's waaay to big to be a pond. Different strokes for different folks.
