Edit: I believe I may have once again mis-spoken. I went searching for my first mention of the Camillus 72 pattern and found I received my first one in mid-August or 2011. I posted it on page 136 of the "Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............ " thread. A couple of posts below that T.J. has a post mentioning the 72 that Dale rehandled for him. T.J., is that the same knife you're always displaying and making my mouth water?

I was prefer enlightened by Jerry.
Jerry was always talking about Camillus 72 and what a perfect knife .
So I tried one.
He forgot to tell people that they come with a virus and there's no cure.
Now you see the number 72 you have to stop and look even it a street number.
I can't just blame Jerry alone. He and Carrmillus(the older and wiser one hiding in the background ) I read most of their post about 72's.
t j murphy I think I have seen that knife before ,but I'm not sure.
After all that I will blame myself .
It's self inflicted and I'm enjoying the ride.

Tommy, the tang stamp is "Made In USA". The handles are mounted by the Camillus prong method. It has nickel silver pins and liners, the handles are that black synthetic (rough black?), the secondary blades have half-stops and the main blade is saber ground on both sides. The blade compliment is 1st generation Camillus 72. I'm about 99.9% sure it was made by Camillus for Sears. The only thing wrong with it is the main blade has no snap. There is plenty of rise on the spring when the blade is opened so it makes me wonder if the frame is too tight at the joint. Big time snap on both secondary blades.

.............I've never seen a "modern" Camillus with that shield, I've got some older Camillus patterns that have a similar shield, but I've never seen it on one from that era??..................

Jerry send it over to me I will fix it and keep a eye on it for awhile.

Tommy -- I'm fairly well convinced it was made in 1946 or 1947. I think Camillus still had one foot in the 1930s right after the war and that's where that shield came from. Of course if I'm correct and it was a SFO for Sears, they could have specified the shield in addition to the N/S liners and half-stops on the secondaries.

I shipped that #72 back to you from my shop on March 17, 2010 according to my shop notes. I think all of the interest in the #72s has happened since then. I had 2 or 3 of them prior to that, but I do not recall any great fascination with them prior to that time. Not saying that knife started all the interest, just that I customized it before they became so popular.

Yours was the first one I had worked on. The next thing that I remember happening was that Jerry quoted you in his signature line and started collecting every variation of the pattern he could find! The prices went from $10 to whatever they are selling for on ebay today!

According to my spread I got five #72s between 2007 and January 2012. The most I paid for one was $10.45.
Now #72 parts knives are selling for more than that!

.....dale, I remember in early 2012, a bone, short-line #72 that was in near mint condition selling on ebay for $140.00!!!........................... ................................

$140???

I wouldn't pay that much for one now unless it was:
-Mint
-In the box
-With the other 5 knives that came in the box with it (box of 6)!

Or if it was a box of 12 that would be okay too, just as long as the box is full!
