I assume your is an R1240? In my Stewart and Richie book it shows the knife with a long pull, like yours. In Sargents book it shows both pull types.

Thank's, yes it is a R1240. Nice knives, didn't know they made a lockback fish scaler.

Another Remington mystery. Most have the circle stamp on the blade and some have the straight line stamp. Circle on Remington made knives and supposedly straight line on contract knives made for Remington by other knife companies. Just when I think I have that figured out a friend gave me this barlow as a gift. Should be a RB43 but I can't see the pattern number.

The straight line stamp has had me scratching my head. Remington made 10s of thousands of knives like the R43, why have another company make that pattern for them? They are already set up to make them. I can understand the switchblade knife from Schrader. Here are two identical knives R2215. One with a Remington circle stamp one with the straight line stamp. Is it fact that Remington never used the straight line stamp?

Here on aapk. It has been said many times.
Edit: maybe I have misunderstood what has been said. The knives with a straight line stamp are contract knives (made by another company other than Remington for Remington)

I've had the big dog grooming knife with the dog head shield for quite a while, with a Remington etch. I picked up this smaller one with "OLD TRUSTY DOG FOOD COMPANY, NEEDHAM HEIGHTS, MASS AND EMERYVILLE, CALIF" Both are R4733 big knife is 3 3/4 the little one is 3 3/8.

Sargent shows 3 varieties in the 3RD edition, big one with no shield, big one with dog head shield, and the little one with no shield. His little example has the same etch as mine.

Here is a different one. The pen blade is stamped "Kelly How Thomson Co" they were a wholesale hardware company in Duluth, Mn from 1902-1955 as best as I can tell. I could find 2 other knives with this stamp posted on aapk.

I like those little pearl pen knives. Snappy little suckers. I was messing around the other day and did a little reorganizing.
