My oldest boy is eat up with the trapping bug. Last night he caught his first coon. He skinned him this afternoon after church all by himself. He used an old Delrin handled Kutmaster muskrat. He’s pretty stoked.

Thanks guys. He gets up every morning, takes his 22 and goes to check his traps.

I really have no idea what they’re bringing. I’ve never been a trapper. But somehow he and a buddy of his have been bitten bad by the bug. He learned how to trap, what to bait with, and how to skin them all on his own. He’s even made his own arrangements with a fur buyer to buy his hides. I’m right proud if him doing all of this on his own.

Thanks guys. He’s a good boy. I’m blessed with three good ones. I’ll chalk it up more to the grace of God than any of my efforts.

We’ll be rabbit hunting this week and OH you’ll be proud. He hunts with an old standard weight A5 16 gauge.

I have indoctrinated the two oldest into believing there’s no other gauge than 16!

Great to see that he’s interested in trapping and the outdoors Wade. My youngest was into trapping also when he was that age. He learned how to deal with skunks the hard way!

Rofl! I bet that was an interesting lesson. Me and some of the guys at church we’re telling him the other day that those polecats can’t spray him if their back feet aren’t touching the ground. So all he has to do is sneak up on them and grab them by the tail before they spray. For some reason he didn’t think that was a good idea. Lol.

Funny, Wade. Great post concerning your son. I am a big A5 fan but don't have a 16 only a couple of older 12s. Do you have one of the newer ones that he will be using?

His is the only A5 in the house. I had a light 12 a few years back but hit offered a trade I couldn’t refuse and it went down the road. The only other Browning than lives here is a BPS 12 gauge I have.

My flavor of choice is Ithaca 37 shotguns and old Marlin lever actions. There is an off brand Remington or two and a couple of Savages and Stevens but don’t tell anybody. Lol.

Your boy has good taste in shotguns Wade - you should encourage that! Belgian Browning standard 16 gauges are solid shotguns. An old photo of mine. OH
