Former Michigan lawmaker captures photo of 'one-in-a-million' 3-antler deer
A former Michigan state lawmaker believes he took a “one-in-a-million” photo last weekend of a rare three-antler deer in the state’s Upper Peninsula.

“Five days before rifle season for Whitetail Deer and look who I get to see, along with his girlfriend,” he wrote on the post. “A three antlered, nine or twelve point buck (depending if you want to count the two little tines on the right antler, and the small tine on the left antler). I don't recall ever seeing a three antlered deer before.”

Local veterinarian Steve Edwards confirmed that the deer is healthy and that the abnormality may have occurred when it was an embryo. He also called the antlers a “one-in-a-million thing.”

I wonder if the third antler is a help or a hindrance in his competition with others. It certainly is unusual.

Dan thank you so much for sharing that picture with us. I've never seen one either and frankly I've never heard of it before.

I wonder if he (and his girlfriend) could be captured and put in a safe reserve before he is in a hunters scope?

He has a good size antler on the normal side so he has already survived 3 or 4 hunting seasons. He needs to go and hide now and forget about charging around looking for does.

Doc B my brother's photography skills are getting better all the time. Also when he downloads them to his big desk computer he has learned how to adjust them to compensate for light, clearity, shadows etc. I just wish I was still up there to see it all first hand.

His pictures are first class all the way - capturing the natural beauty of Alaska. I sure enjoy seeing them here. OH

The snow cometh and there is more on the way. I haven't asked my brother if the river will freeze over later in the season.

That looks like it was a very nice sunset!! Now his royal fuzzball-ness doesn't look like he is having a lot of fun outside.

Thank you David and OH . I'm slowly learning the art of photography, leaning a lot, and have much too learn. Least my knife taking skills are up a notch .
Don't worry about mister puff ball, he is having a blast. I was just talking to him a bunch, so he would pose for me . You should see him go at it, rough n' tumble ball of fur .

Still going through some of the 800 pictures we took on our trip and thought I would share a few more. BTW you won't hurt my feelings if you say please STOP. I'm like the guy that can't stop showing the baby pictures. Anyway.....

The first pic is the only airport near the Drewery Lodge where we stayed with Mt. Redoubt in the background. In this view the mountain is really about 45 miles away across the Cook Inlet, between the Kenai Peninsula and the mainland of Alaska.
The next two pics are what a person with a good camera, a good telephoto lens and a touch of talent can do. That tree and the water's edge was just off the back patio deck,

My brother and his wife hiking up to the "Exit Glacier" in the ice fields above Seward, Alaska.

I don't know how it got turned sideways , but today my oldest son got his first deer today. Field dressed it with a Case xx 1965 -1969 folding hunter. I know I haven't been on for awhile but I have been lurking.

cudgee I haven't heard anything about the fires down there in the past few days. What is the current situation?

The reports i heard this morning were that the weather conditions had settled down a bit and there had been no new flare ups. The concern is the weather report for the next week is not ideal. One of the things that those affected the fires is, once things settle down the media move on to the next story and they will be forgotten and left to their own devises. Thank you and everyone else at AAPK for all your concern, means a lot.

Mate just your thoughts and prayers would be a great help. Unfortunately donating to any agency or fund set up is tied up in bureaucratic red tape and does not seem to get to where it is most needed. This happened when we had bushfires in my state 10 years ago when 179 people died, the money donated was tied up for ages.
