Very nice find. The 881Y pattern was made long before 1973, earlier handles were celluloid and the main blade had a match strike pull. Yours is probably mid 70's due to the NY before USA. That stamp was used for a short time post walden. That's a rough guess as I'm no expert. The blades are 1095.

Dave you did VERY well, that benchmade alone is a $200+ knife. And it's not serrated, a huge plus in my book.

Dave you did very well, that benchmade alone is a $150+ knife.

Thanks Paul - I thought for sure they were stainless but since it is NOS I guess they haven't had a chance to take on a patina.

My new Benchmade had a few interesting developments yesterday. The shop dealer, Bob, that I bought it from called me and said the previous owner came into the shop and asked Bob if he still had the Benchmade. Apparently he had been drinking before he sold it and was having regrets. Bob called me and explained the circumstances and asked if I would sell it back or trade for something else in the shop. I like the knife but Bob has always done well by me so I said I would drop it off within a day or two. It's about 40 miles to the shop. Bob told the previous knife's owner I'd bring it back up. After I hung up he said he would be happy with a few more dollars for the knife so Bob gave him some more money. Then he told Bob he had another one to sell. Bob offered him $50 for the second one and he took it and left, I'm guessing to the watering hole that started this whole deal. Bob called me to tell me to keep the knives ( Both the Benchmade and the SOG in the previous pictuer came from the same guy) and that if I was interented in the second one, I could have it for what he paid for it. I now have two. The second is a HK154CM, made by Benchmade and value out about the same. I gave Bob an extra $10 for all his trouble. I'm happy, Bob's happy, and the little odd guy is happy at least for now. Between phone calls I found a safe at a rummage sale for $20 to store these in. My other ones are full.____Dave

Dang close to it......and if not only because I worked it to removed some of the rust!

Had a hatchet listed on craigslist a guy wanted. He mentioned to bring other hatchets and axes if I had any.......
I was shocked how many I actually had.

The more I look at the handles on that nice full Kutmaster the more I drool. I'm gonna short out my keyboard at this rate.

Yup that's one temptation that has filled Scott's pockets nicely already. The only thing that didn't stop me from leaping at it is it's a fixed blade and I haven't really fleshed out my collection of those in any meaningful way. Yet.
