Yesterday afternoon, my visit to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a "W & H", one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It has the curved or arched style of tang stamp, WITH the "USA" in the middle. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK NJ" The main handle side says, "PENN'A F.O.E. (over) DUBOIS, 1930" It also says, "PAT. PEND." just below the pivot pin. The other side says nothing, it is blank. This is my first "W & H" pocket knife that advertises this organization, business, company, product, holiday, event, etc. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in FAIR condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off.
I took some pictures and here it is.

Just doing a simple, basic, Google search, produced a TON of information
and items pertaining to the F.O.E., The Fraternal Order of Eagles.
There is also information to be found regarding Dubois, Pennsylvania.
I could find only one item linking Dubois, Pennsylvania AND the F.O.E.
It's the VERY LAST picture, posted below. It's NOT my item, NOT my picture.
The following tidbit of information about The Fraternal Order of Eagles is
from their website at https://foe.com/

Our History - How It Began.
"On February 6, 1898, six of Seattle’s most prominent theater owners gathered to discuss how to handle an ongoing musicians’ strike. John Cort, brothers John W. and Thomas J. Considine, H.L. Leavitt, Mose Goldsmith and Arthur G. Williams headed down to the Moran Brothers’ shipyard on South Charles Street to make a plan. According to most popular accounts, after deciding to work together to settle the strike by using piano players to replace the musicians, the men began to discuss life. At that moment, the Order of Good Things was born. As their numbers grew, the Order chose the Bald Eagles as their official emblem and changed the name of the organization to “The Fraternal Order of Eagles, with a goal to “make human life more desirable by lessening its ills and promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope.” Touring theater troupes are credited with much of the Eagles’ early growth. Most members were actors, stagehands and playwrights who carried the Eagles story from town to town as they traversed the United States and Canada. The group’s early motto, “Skin’em,” became the secret password to identify members while the official motto was changed to “Liberty, Truth, Justice and Equality.” Within 10 years of its inception, the organization boasted more than 1,800 Aeries scattered throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with a membership exceeding 350,000. Members received free medical attention for themselves and their families, weekly payments in case of sickness and a funeral benefit – all valuable services before the widespread availability of medical, disability and life insurance. The organization quickly became a leader in influencing national politics, pushing to create Mother’s Day and eventually Social Security, Medicare and more. The Eagles’ growing membership, comprised of many prominent local figures, held a position of great influence in communities everywhere."

Doing just a simple, basic, Google search did NOT produce ANY information on the history of the CONTINENTAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY, St. Louis, Missouri. The search did NOT produce too many items pertaining to the CONTINENTAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY, St. Louis, Missouri. The search DID produce PLENTY of information on the history of the building that was home to the CONTINENTAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY, St. Louis, Missouri. Here is a bit of information on the history of that building. It is from, and the rest of the history, can be found at this website: https://www.builtstlouis.net/arch.html
"In 1928, St. Louis insurance and bank businessman Edward Mays conceived the idea of housing his two enterprises, the Continental Life Insurance Company and the Grand National Bank, in a single building. He decided not only to construct a building for his companies, but also to make the structure a grand addition to the St. Louis skyline. To design the building, he commissioned local architect William B. Ittner, noted for his numerous school buildings throughout the St. Louis area and in some 25 other states. Itner had previously designed the neo-Classical Masonic Temple a block away from the Continental site. The building that Mays erected was a 22-story Modernistic masterpiece. Under Mays' direction, Continental Life spared no expense: the lobby was elaborately trimmed and decorated. A bright red aerial beacon glowed from the top of the building, visible for 50 miles on a clear night -- 100 from the air. A decorative metal-framed clock greeted visitors on the street. The three-story penthouse, the Continental's crowning glory, was custom-fitted for Mays with marble fountains and fish tanks, rooftop gardens and dance spaces, and unparalleled views of the city. Midtown's location at the top of a hill made Mays' new home the highest living space in the city. Novel features of the building included an early version of drive-through banking in the rear alley, a fifty-car garage in the basement, and air conditioning, the first such high rise in St. Louis."

Recently, my visit to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one main blade (broken), one secondary blade/tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), one tang stamp, two secondary blade/tool stamps, 3 7/16" closed, a "long" blade pull, one spring, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. The main handle side says, "UNITED MINE WORKERS OF AMERICA", in a banner. There are also three mining items depicted, a shovel, a cap with a light or a lamp, and a pick. The other handle side says, "EIGHT HOURS", in a banner. It also says (in Latin), "LABOR OMNIA VINCIT", in a banner. "Labor Omnia Vincit" translates to "Labor Conquers All." In the center of the two banners, there is a logo or symbol. It is a circle that says, "U.M.W. OF AMERICA - 8 HOURS, with a handshake in the center. The main blade (broken) front tang stamp, is the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the "USA" in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W. & H. CO. (over) USA (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade/tool front stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "PATENTED (over) MAY 18, 1909" The secondary blade/tool back stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "THE (over) W. & H. CO." This is my first, "W & H" pocket knife, that advertises this particular organization, company, business, product, holiday, event, etc. The main blade (broken) does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade (broken) does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade (broken) does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade/tool does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade/tool does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade/tool does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. Even with the broken blade, this pocket knife is in FAIR condition. Doing just a basic, simple, Google search, did produce information AND items regarding the BROWNING KING & COMPANY.
The following bit of information is just a VERY BRIEF glimpse of what the BROWNING KING & COMPANY actually is.
Browning King & Company, Chicago / New York.
A US clothing firm founded in 1851 by W. C. Browning. A partnership was formed in Chicago in the 1870s with Henry W. King and two stores opened in New York with others in Brooklyn, St. Louis, Boston, Providence, Buffalo, Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Omaha, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Always alive to advertising opportunities, they created the Browning King Dance Orchestra to play on WEAF radio in New York in 1923, the first radio sponsorship deal. In sports they were associated more with baseball (organising father and son days to see the Brooklyn Dodgers and had a large electrical scoreboard above the Grand Street entrance to their Kansas City store) but a "Kings" brand of golf balls also exists.

It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It has the curved or arched style of tang stamp, WITH the "USA" in the middle. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK NJ" The main handle side says, "ALLEGHENY TRUST CO. - PITTSBURGH, PA" It also has "PAT. PEND." under the blade pivot pin. The other handle side says, "NEW BUILDING OPENING - --1929--" This is my fourth W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular company, business, event, organization, product, etc. My other three, ALLEGHENY TRUST CO. pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
