Lyle,Lockwood Brothers is the only one I know of.Scott King had it and it had some kind of bird on it (emu?)that was from South America and theorized that it was for that market.There are a few old German made toes but it was mostly an American pattern.

Here's a Tillotson & Co. gunstock. Unfortunately it's been rehandled, but I love how the swedge on the master blade goes all the way to the tang. I've only seen that on folding dirks or fixed blades before.

I think this easy open teardrop jack fits in here. According to Goins, WM Enders stamping was used by EC Simmons Hardware 1908-1913. Jigged black comp, swedged long pull spear and pen blades, propeller shield, iron bolsters and brass liners. Stamped WM Enders MFG CO. St Louis, U.S.A. with what looks to be a centered "T" under it. I think this was a secondary line of knives for Simmons Hardware.

Found this American Winsted yesterday at a small knife show, not is the best of shape but have only seen one other before. Company was in Connecticut but other than that hard to find any information, there may have been 2 companies using the American name.

Was cleaning and oiling some of my woody collection and found a couple old rare ones I had forgotten I had. The one with the bar shield is a Platts Brothers, Union NY, and the other jack is a Rockford Cut., Rockford Ill. The Rockford I picked up in 2005 at a gun show for $5 and the Platts I got from a friend at a North Star Blade Coll. meeting for $30. I was collecting Westerns at the time and he figured it would fit into my collection because of the Platts connection.

JohnR, I'm not familiar with that stamp but I'd say it's a keeper for sure. Great knife.

American Knife Co.on Boyd St. In Winsted Ct. was in business 1919-1948. Founded by a father and son who had been employed by Empire Knife Co. In 1948 the name was changed to Kendal Manufacturing Co. then to Bukar Manufacturing Co. They went out of business in 1955 when a flood detroyed their facilities.

What did the "B" stand for on the bolsters?

I also have an American Knife Co barlow with a B on the bolsters, but I don't know what it stands for. Still unable to post pictures of from my tablet.

There was also an American knife Co.based in Thomaston Ct. 1865-1895. Not the same company.

Oh yeah, Dave. I would have jumped on that Rockford Cut. like a duck on a bug. I'm still hunting for one of the flat pommel Estwings I can afford.
